so i got in my diamond and i wanted to compare it to some others as well as have them check the GIA report, I looked at it compared to the radiant star and it is obviously a different cut than a regular radiant myn still looked great and had a lot of light return but the reeds star looked to shine a bit more, the lady said this is because it has 81 facets and the two stones are really not comparable should I be worried about this that the reeds one had more return or is this just because of the extra facets? TIA

specs on the one i received

Hi Goldens

More info is needed, you know with radiants they are tricky and images are really needed for one thing. What I would do if you are unsure, ask if you can check out this other radiant away from the store lights, that would be a better test - also extra facets don't always make a diamond sparkle more, it is the overall cut proportions and everything working together that creates sparkle. I remember this diamond came from Blue Nile and you got it very recently so you will have time to decide.

Please post a pic if you can.

I tried to get in a few different lighting conditions. Let me know if i can provide anything else I obviously do not have an ideal scope image or asset sorry... Also I was not really talking about the shine from both stones I compared but rather just the cut, the reeds "radiant" cut appeared like a princess mixed with a radiant, as it had an X down the middle of the stone. Is their cut really even a radiant cut?

Goldens, thanks for trying but I can''t see anything much from those photos.

sorry my camera was dead so i tried to take some pictures (The ones above) with my built in camera on my laptop haha guess that did not work out so hot. I like the way it shines though I have compared it in low light which I still get good fire out of the stone, medium light seems to have the most fire and mixture of light return, outside in bright light it is the brightest with still some fire in it but less than the indoor lighting. I am not sure what lighting conditions are suppose to provide what, maybe if you know any other conditions I could test please let me know.

TIA

No need to apologize!

Basically take it on a good test drive, view it under a tree with the sun filtered through the leaves, that can show some nice fire and scintillation. Look at it with the sun behind you, full on sunlight is rarely flattering to diamonds. Check it out in dull light, bathroom light, candlelight, store lighting etc, as many places as you can think of.

Even if you aren't sure what to look for, the important thing is to enjoy the show the diamond provides so keep that in mind, but it sounds as if you have a good eye and know what to look for!

sounds like i have a few more places to look at now, i was still wondering if anyone had any info on the radiants sold in reeds though with the 81 facets? It really looked like a princess stone with the top of the stone cut like a radiant... If no one knows this is ok too as I do not think I would ever get one as most the clarity grades in that store are garbage, such as the stone I looked at in reeds (the modified radiant) was SI2 .75 carat G color for 7900...

So I sent this off to be set in the flyer fit setting I ordered, got that from solomon brothers. I was pretty happy when the sales person called me and said that I had a very nice stone and that he usually does not like radiants but this one has a lot of fire and return. Hopefully he was being honest, but it made me feel like I made a good choice with this stone.
