The original setting for my wedding ring was platinum with diamonds and detracted from the warmth of the spinel. New setting will be 18k gold but because there's very little metal showing, I'm thinking that maybe something other than white diamonds is needed to warm it up. I played around with the original CAD to see how it would with alternating yellow diamonds. I would consider orange and green stones also. Is there such a thing as tsavorite melee?

And, rather than alternating white diamond with another color, would it be over the top to have just yellow, or green, or orange and no diamonds?

Thoughts?

Ooooo.... I love the alternating yellow and white stones! I'd still have the diamonds there for sparkle factor, but I love the yellow diamonds with it.

Love the first one, second one fell flat to me, two colors really evens it out

Thanks Uppy. I've been holding up this remake for a year and it's time to pull the trigger. I'm not a big fan of yellow diamonds but think they just might work best here.

Davi -- thanks for the input. I'm relieved you're not put off by my pooper scooper status ;))

I like the yellow stones! If you want a nice saturated yellow, maybe yellow sapphires might even fit the bill?

Good point, I think the impact would be lost if the color wasn't saturated. Off to look at yellow sapphires.....

No problemo :D Oh I am, definitely put off, but being full of rainbows and a new baby unicorn since maisie killed the old one makes me forget all that super negative energy and channel the carebears    j/k

yellow sapphire will add the color and hint of sparkle that won't outshine the spinel or the diamonds. It'll look like a runway for the spinel

Sshhhhhhhhh, oh geez, edit your post quick, don't want the unicorn killer to know about the new baby.

Matata,
First off, are you sure about that much skin showing underneath the ring? I know some people think it looks too “nude” so I just want to be sure you love this look. I applaud the use of high karat gold to bring out the warmth of the red spinel as I am a huge fan of that combination. I have seen tsavorite melees but don’t think it’s a good combination. I’ve posted pictures of a tsavorite flanked by 2 red spinels and the colour combination is too loud. Yellow diamonds will add a bit of warmth with the dispersion adding a lovely touch of bling to the entire package.

The high carat gold will really be wonderful with the spinel.

So far as the diamonds go, if you are going to use yellow diamonds with this, I think you need to be very, very careful, whether you alternate them or not. You have a ring with very strong colors and shapes, and you don't want to end up pulling attention away from the center stone. I wouldn't commit to yellow diamond melee without seeing it IRL. Any tinge of green, or a yellow color that is weak or washed out, and you are going to lose the focus on the spinel, your eye is going to be pulled off to the margins of the ring.

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the skin thing but I think I'll get enough coverage with it set east/west. Last thing I want is to have that stone sitting on a bed of wrinkly skin.

What do you think Chrono, from the pic, do you think I'd have enough coverage?

:lickout: What a stone!!!!!

Fantastic! Is there a thread about it?

Yes but I bought it about 6 yrs ago so I don't think it's accessible anymore. It's 3.21ctw and took 7 mos to find. I looked at a lot of stones and started to get discouraged that I'd ever find The One. I call her Big Red

beautiful stone!!!! do you mid telling us where you ended up finding her! She is definitely big and beautiful!

My local jeweler sourced it for me and I can't remember where it came from. Probably have the the info tucked away in safety deposit box.

That is a fabulous stone.

Okay, you can't do that to us. :nono:

You have to post more photos. Many, many....

WOW! What a gorgeous stone!!! I love the ring design as well and think it will really make the spinel the center piece it should be :) I am thinking if you can find the perfect shade of yellow diamond melee, that would be perfect with the ring design!

LOL at the bed of wrinkly skin. Not to worry, it looks like your spinel set that way will have great coverage and it looks like a gorgeous red spinel too. I still remember when you first got it.

Thanks Chrono. And I still remember when you scooped up a matched pair of reds out from under me ;)) I'm think I might go back to the drawing board on the ring though. There's just sumpthin about it that doesn't resonate with me.

Matata, I've always adored your spinel, so I'm happy to see you're spending so much time coming up with a new reset design for it.

I love your original design, but if you're scrapping this new concept, what about swapping the concave frame for convex following the curve of the spinel, with the yellow and white melee?

Ditto Lauren’s suggest of making the outline of the ring a concave rather than a convex; it’ll give it a slightly more traditional look without looking traditional, and help with the overall flow. I think it’s a great idea. As for the pair of red spinels, I’m going to keep mum on that. :halo:

Lauren & Chrono...funny you should mention the concave. Here are two of the 8 concept ideas I sent the vendor. I think what I want is somewhere between the two.

I like the net-like design in between the bands on the first picture you posted. It would be incredibly unique if you can somehow incorporate that into your red spinel setting. Are you set on having it set East/West?

Stunning STONE!! That is such a beautiful RED

You are a lucky dog! :sun:

The thing about the skin showing through; you won't notice skin like you have it in the photo, because it is a large area, like a background. Once you frame that skin and surround it with diamonds, it's emphasized, and it's a design element too. Because the skin area is fairly similar in size to your stone, it might compete with the stone.

But I've seen some open work rings that somehow don't emphasize the skin, maybe some real careful analysis of how they manage to do that will yield some design clues.

That's just my humble opinion, what do I know?
