Hello Guys!

Well my original ering has now been dismounted and Brian is taking it to be recut to better proportions. I am very, very excited about this. He took lots of "before" pictures of the diamond in the original ring, and did a full sarin and asset analysis, and AGS. I can''t remember what all, but a lot of stuff. I will post before and after pics as things progress. Thanks for ALL the GREAT ADVICE I have gotten on here. Please keep your fingers crossed that all turns out well. :-)

It''s in the best of hands with Brian, so no worries. I can''t wait to see the recut Isabelle. You''ll have to post before and after shots, that would be awesome.

Very cool!

What size diamond is it? Did Brian tell you how much weight you would lose? I''m very curious to see the difference!

Hi Guys,

Yeah, it is currently 1.159 ct. (so I''ll round up to 1.16). It actually did not score poorly on the AGS, even though the HCA scored it a real dog (5.4). The AGS score was respectable, though the calculation was by the old standards. I am hoping for something that isn''t a steep b/c Brian said the pavilion angles were too steep and the girdle was wavy. So I can''t wait to see it. I''ll post pics and stats when I get something back, but it probably won''t be for a couple of weeks. Thanks for being interested! :-)

Isabelle, i didn''t know you were considering this route, but I am very happy for you and hopefully you will really love your diamond once its finished - do you have a idea what the weight will be after?

had a stone recut by Infinity...
the stone went from a 1.47 ct to a 1.15 ct after the recut. hopefully you won''t lose as much weight.

is Brian recutting to ACA standards? or ''just'' ideal? interested to know they might do this kind of thing..

What happens if the stone breaks during re-cutting? Does insurance cover this move??

i was told highly unlikely, but still had to sign a contract saying that....the cutter aren't liable if something goes wrong.

Hi Dancing Fire! I think it is reasonable to expect to lose some weight after recutting, but in terms of appearance the important factor is diameter. If the diamond performs better and the diameter isn''t appreciably affected then the decision to recut is sound. I will definitely post all the stats once it is done. :-)

Hi Arjune, No, I don''t know. Probably over a carat is my guess. I am expecting the diameter to be reduced somewhat b/c the girdle has to be fixed in order to increase the light performance. I am hoping however that we are talking in terms of "tenths of millimeters", so it should be okay, and after speaking extensively with Brian, I think it''s a sound decision. The diamond isn''t a disaster diamond so less is needed to improve the performance. :-)

Hi Angeline. No, I am trying to keep the expectations reasonable. I think it is reasonable to expect the diamond to be better than it is today, but it wouldn''t be fair to expect them to hit ACA standards with a recut, especially b/c I do not want to lose too much diameter. (Of course, I won''t complain if I end up with something fabulous, mind you. LOL) It already is a beautiful diamond, but I am essentially trying to recapture some of the light that is currently leaking out. Once the recutting is done, I will tell you what Brian says in terms of the new cut quality. I will also post the "before" SARIN and ASSETS and all that, as well as the "after". Thank you so much for being interested. I am very excited and happy to share the whole thing with you!

Hi Sna. Considering the pressure put on a diamond in the formation process, I don''t think breakage is of tremendous concern. Insurance won''t cover it, but Brian is a cut expert and I feel really confident that what I am reasonably hoping to accomplish will be accomplished. BTW, did you see that my actual color is a G? :-)

Hmmm, I didn''t know they did this. I''d sort of like my original stone recut, but at 1.02, it would end up under the 1 ct. mark, unfortunately.

If you don''t mind, how much does this cutting service cost?

(Little wheels are turning about my pretty but not ideal sparkly...)
