rectangular cushion sapphire...in a halo?

Hi everyone!

I've been reading these boards for months and am posting for the first time!

I'm seeking feedback on two things: a rectangular cushion sapphire and how it would look in a bloom halo.

The rectangular cushion sapphire is 1.8 carats, and the dimensions are 6.8 x 5.8 x 5.1...I have a few pics below, including one of the sapphire loose sitting in a halo setting, a view of the sapphire the long way (as it extends over the halo setting), and the vendor's picture of the gem. Please ignore the Sharpie-d round diamond ring that are included on the hand shots...we were playing around with sizes and shapes. I like the color and shape of the sapphire, and am surprised by how clear it is. I am told there is slight color zoning.....but I don't think I can see it... #amateur

I love how halos make sapphires pop and wanted to put the sapphire in a smaller/thinner bloom halo (like the ones Tacori is known for) with a thin pave band. My fingers are on the small side (around a size 3.5), so delicate and thin is key. Right now, I'm stuck in a rut because I can't picture how it would look scale-wise. A 1mm halo setting would mean an additional 2mm to the width of the ring, for a total of 8mm on my small finger. Is that too big? And then the halo would be 1/4 of the width of the ring...that is reasonable, right? I'm a little worried there may be more halo than sapphire (especially on the shorter side).

Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can attempt to squeeze this rectangular cushion into a halo without overwhelming my finger?

Thanks!
suzi

hello! while I'm sure other experts will tell you more, I thought I'd say a couple:

1. if you notice that picture of the bloom halo you have, some of the halo is hidden under the stone, so it's not really a +2mm.

2. also, setting it low will help it look less prominent - and also I don't think it looks too big, even in that bigger halo you have it sitting in. it's beautiful finger coverage!

your stone has a great colour by the way, and good luck!

What is the mm size of the diamond melees in the halo setting you've shown in the pictures? 1 mm diamond is approximately a half point diamond which I don't think will be too large. There are chunky halos and thin halos, depending on how they are made. Some show more metal, and some barely show any. Angling the halo slightly also prevents the halo from overpowering the stone, giving the appearance of a slightly smaller halo. Does the vendor have any settings you can try on or CAD software to play around with sizing?

A few pictures showing the proportions:
8.5 mm with a 1.3 mm halo

Great advice so far! I was going to suggest looking at different ctw and melee sizes to see your preference. I personally don't like smaller melee sizes as much
