Last month Arcadian put up the upcoming Sotheby's auction of an incredible pink diamond. Some of you may have seen that it sold for a record price for a diamond or any jewel about 10 days ago to good old Laurence Graff, whose website makes me limp with desire. (My avatar is a Graff brooch that I wish lived in my jewel case.) Sotheby's press release:

I never heard of Laurence Graff, so I googled him.
Interesting story of a self-made billionaire !

And Beautiful Diamond, of course!!!!

Yeah, I put this on here too. Amazing!

JF - I thought the avatar was your brooch! I was even looking for the thread... in vain of, course. Ha-ha, but I seriously thought it was YOURS! I think I mentioned looking for the tread today in a post about colored diamonds.

In my dreams, Crasru! I'd give my right arm for it to be mine -- could get along without a right arm much more happily if I had that brooch hanging out here. In fact I've only seen about 2 Graff things in 30 years of loving his stuff that I wouldn't part with an arm to have.

ETA: Shiney, I hope you roamed his website, too scrumptious to miss.

As much as I like diamonds I think that price is unreal. I think I'd save 40+ million and get it in white. :errrr:

You'd get it for less in white right now, Danny; could have a little left over from your $40 mill. From what I've read, colored stones are the thing this year, including diamonds. Fine ones are selling at auctions at Christies & Sotheby's for double to quadruple their estimates. It all goes in cycles!

I saw a huge orangey pink diamond, just like the one Graff purchased, at the recent traveling "Nature of Diamonds" Exhibit. I think it was around 20 to 30 carats too. I could have stared at it all day long. :cheeky:  :cheeky:
