I am looking for suggestions/recommendations on where to sell my extensive collection of beads.

Long before I began to collect colored gemstones, I strung and sold beads. It became obvious pretty quickly that I was a little obsessive, always feeling like I needed to purchase one more different size/color/material in order to finish a necklace or pair of earrings...obviously leaving me with a constantly growing inventory of beads. After a while I realized that I just liked having all these beads, looking at them and dreaming about what I would make with them. I now have a fairly big assortment of beads and findings. I loved combining various unusual combinations to make necklaces. I'll try and attach photos of one of the necklaces I made, a hand knotted, pastel pink freshwater pearl and mandarin garnet two strand necklace. It makes me happy just thinking about making these pieces, and while I would love to get back into it, I really doubt I will.

So here I am with this inventory of beads. Whole strands of mainly gemstone and pearl beads. Handmade Thai silver accent beads. Swarovski crystal and seed beads. Various shell, wood and seed pod beads. To me, they are all beautiful and I need to let them go to someone who will not only love them, but use them! My question: how do you sell something like this? Individually on ebay? In groupings by type of bead? I have beads made from high quality sapphire, mandarin garnet, emerald, tsavorite, moonstone and many other gemstones. Should I sell them by strand - might be $100 plus per strand - or sell them by a section of the strand to keep the price down? Am I making a crazy amount of work for myself and is there an easier way?

It seems to me that I may have several thousand dollars that could be freed up by selling these beads. What do you think? Any ideas?

TIA :wavey:

I'm not speaking from experience at all here - my experience being limited to the fact that I have a few strands of unstrung beads hanging around too! :wink2:

However... you might check out etsy and ebay to see how bead sales are going on those sites. I know many etsy sellers sell materials and kits as well as finished products.

oops- double post.

Thanks - etsy never even crossed my mind! Anyone else?

Etsy is definitely a good place. Tag it destash as well.

Do let us know where you list them, as I know a ton of people who might be interested.

Hi Lady Disdain: what does the bolded part mean? Sorry to be so dense...

And yes, if I ever get around to photographing them, I will let you know where and when I post. The thought, though, of selling individual strands one by one is so daunting!

Destash is shorthand for "selling my stash of unused supplies and materials, which is threatening to take over the house". It is a tag that people look for to find good buys and it will also make clear that you are not a commercial supplier.

Got it, that is really helpful. Thanks again.
