As some of you may remember, I have trouble sitting/walking in my mermaid gown. I have been planning to get white/off-white cocktail dress to change into during the reception. Well, while I was out bargain hunting last weekend, I picked up this one at BCBG. It was a total steal.

Do you think it will work as a reception dress? Can I pair it with a little birdcage veil to make it feel more bridal?

Very cute! What type of wedding is it? Time of day? I think it could work with certain weddings but not with others, so I''m just curious about the details.

Nice find though

Thanks! The reception is an evening cocktail reception in a trendy area downtown. The bridesmaids are wearing black cocktail dresses, which is probably why I think the dress is okay even though it''s mostly black.

With a wedding like that, I think it would fit right in! I vote that you should wear it.

I think its darling

Looks great for the occasion!

I agree! It looks perfect for the type of reception you are having.

I think the dress is adorable! The only concern I''d have is how much it rides up when you sit. The mermaid can be tough to sit in if tight through the hips, but a short dress can be tough to sit in for fear of exposing too much thigh (or worse), so I''d probably just make sure it stays put and isn''t to short when you''re sitting. Love it, though!

I think that it looks great and it will definitely fit in with the reception that you''re having. Love it.

As long as you won't regret feeling "bridal" go ahead and wear the short dress- it is sassy! However, it sounds like a part of you may miss the "one day to wear the long, white dress" thing. If that's so, don't ignore those feelings just because you got a good deal on this BCBG dress (as you could definitely wear that after the wedding if you don't wear it as your reception dress). I'd take time to think it over.

Alternatively, have you thought about having your mermaid gown altered a bit so you are able to sit/walk in it? If you can't even walk in the dress, it can probably stand to be let out a little perhaps??? I know you don't want to lose the shape of the dress, but a good seamstress may have some tricks up her sleeve that will give you some wiggle room without ruining the silhouette. It's worth having a consultation with a seamstress at the very least. Just thinking on the fly here, but it seems a shame not to be able to wear your wedding gown all night because it's restrictive if a few alterations could solve your problem.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks! I''m pretty short, so it''s not nearly as short on me as it is on the mannequin. It''s almost knee-length on me. It might still ride up though....I will make sure to employ my trusty fashion tape on it.

Not that I don''t think it is a great dress, but nothing about it says formal or bridal at all to me. I would be afraid that one of your guests or your BMs end up having a nicer dress on than you do and that is something that would bother me. It would, though, be a great rehearsal dinner dress to capitalize on the deal.

Just my .02, but I actually agree with Katamari.

HOT dress! I bet it looks awesome on you.

I do agree that it''s not super "bridal", but if that doesn''t bother you, then do it!! It''s a great dress and it will definitely keep attention on you!

Oh my gosh! How cute is that!!
