I was excited at first, but after a couple of hours the excitement wore off and I started noticing things.
1) For some reason, it''s not as sparkly as I though it would be. I have really poor lighting in my room so that could be it. I guess I''ll have to take it outside and see it in natural light.
2) It looked pretty colorless to me...until I placed it next to my setting. I guess side stoned are at least a G color, because my center stone looked yellow in comparison.

So I don''t know what to do. I''ve been looking for a stone for months and finally found one. I don''t want to go back to searching because I most likely won''t find anything better (in my price range). Can you give me honest opinions on this stone please?

It''s this one http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1201582.asp

My pictures suck, because I have no idea how to take normal pictures, but here''s what I have come up with.

The diamond has good proportions and should be a nice performer, make sure the diamond is clean and take it on a good test drive so you can see how it actually behaves. Look at it outside and in as many different lights as you can so you can see it come alive, it should do. Also diamonds pick up the colours which surround them, so it is possible that it is reflecting the colours of your apartment walls etc.

See how you get on, this should help you decide whether this is the one or not.

Have you tried looking at the diamond in the bathroom?

Maybe its just me, but the lights in my bathroom and the kitchen show the fire in my diamond beautifully! I also love the early morning sun!--My diamond just sparkles! I even love shielding my diamond from bright light sources and seeing it ''glow in the dark'' a nice bright white. DON''T GET DOWN JUST YET--TRY MANY DIFFERENT LIGHTING CONDITIONS AND SEE HOW IT ALL WORKS OUT!

GOOD LUCK--HOPE IT ALL TURNS OUT!

I agree with the bathroom lighting! I always lament how my diamond looks amazing in the bathroom, where I don''t have anyone to show it to :)

The stone is beautiful. I think once it is set in that gorgeous setting you won''t notice any color difference unless you are really looking for it. I have an "I" diamond and I know what you mean about the color, but I could only see if from the side (barely, but I am very color sensitive). That is why it is now set in a bezel setting. Let us know what you decide!

Hello mpeysakh (that is a mouthful!),

I am sorry you are not so pleased with the diamond in real life. I agree that to me the pic you have taken is not too flattering, is this how it looks to you IRL?

I wonder if you might be a bit like me and have already made your mind up about this stone; it seems to me that you think it is not right. If that is the case it really is only your opinion that matters.

I think JA are great and I woud call them when they re-open and let them know that you are concerned and let them tell you the facts. I see that the stone does not have flour which can make lower stones look brighter and I wonder if JA would say if this is a higher or lower coloured I. They will know their stock and I imagine will be perfectly honest with you.

I have been lucky enough to buy D''s and E''s for the majority of my jewellery, but this year DH bought me an OMC pendant which was an I and it is so bright and white it really does not look any lower in colour than my colourless stones. I mention this because you do not have to have colourless stones to have a great diamond but you can also have lower colored stones that hold their own against a D/E.

I am saying do not give up on I/J+ stones even if you feel this stone is not the one for you. Perhaps look into a stone with flour?

I KNOW that is might seem like a battle to wade back into diamond hunting, but if you are not happy you will only be postponing the inevitable....(sorry

Thanks, everyone, for suggestions and encouragement. It is almost 8 a.m. in NY and I finally got to look at the stone in natural light. It actually looks so much better! A lot more sparkly, although I still see the color difference. I took better photos of the two, even though the difference isn''t noticeable on pictures. I doubt I''ll find a better stone so I will most likely keep it.

Oh, and the setting is not by a "brand name" designer. We got it at a local jewelry shop back in August and I have yet to find something that I''d like better

I have to agree with Steel. I would hate for you to get it set and then decide. Better to get it right from the start. Color is one of those things that can get under your skin; especially if you start comparing to side stones.

Would it be possible to send the setting to JA to use while they find something that appears to match well, within budget? It may mean a smaller stone. I went smaller for a whiter color. (Those sidestones really do make you think--at least it did for me--I tried to somewhat match mine). It''s all personal.

Anyway, better to fiddle with now, than after set.

I think you should look at more diamonds and make sure its what you want to stick with. You dont want that feeling a year down
the road that you should have done something instead of settling. (I did this with a wedding band once and ended up regretting it).

I love, love, love your setting! I wonder where the jeweler got it. I would love to know.

First make sure it''s clean. As far as cut goes, it should be nice and sparkly, but it looks from the first pictures that it could use a good cleaning.

Only you can decide if the color is going to bother you. It wouldn''t bother me personally at all, I think an I is more than white enough. But you''re the one that going to be wearing it. Look at it in ALL different knids of lighting before you decide. I think it''s really beautiful though!

Thank you so much, guys! So, finally, I was able to take the diamond out of it JA''s setting and look at it just by itself and it showed so much more sparkle! And then I placed it into my setting and I can''t see the color difference anymore! I feel so much better and love the diamond. I''m definitely keeping it! I took some pics with the diamond in to show you

Now I just have to appraise it, set it in and re-size the ring

it''s beautiful.

It looks great and such a lovely setting.

I can''t see any color difference =) Congrats!

Fantastic!!!! At least you have learnt of the merits of cleaning - a dirty diamond isn''t going to sparkle, so keep cleaning that baby!

Great setting too!

It looks just beautiful in that setting. I am so glad you decided to keep it!

It''s gorgeous. I also cannot see any color difference.

I''m glad you''re keeping it. It looks like a winner to me:)

Gorgeous stone and I love the setting, too. Glad you decided to keep it!

Beautiful!

I just want to say that I LOVE your diamond and setting - there is no color difference now that it''s set!

Also, you may just be very color-sensitive, as am I. My diamond is a 2 ct G color, and I can see a faint tint from the side, but not from the top. I can see tint if F colors as well, so it may just be that you are color sensitive too.

Also, I have beige walls and carpet all over my house, so my diamond always looks tinted indoors, but outside, it''s bright white. It may be that your diamond is refeflecting the color of your walls.

Very Pretty!

Looks gorgeous to me, and I absolutely LOVE your setting!

I think I''m late to this but I can''t see the difference at all. Its hard to tell in pics so my suggestion is to go with your gut.
