Hi, I'm a fairly new diamond enthusiast and would greatly appreciate your knowledge when it comes to my future wedding ring's diamond. The jeweler I work with had this 0.52ct F/VS2 cushion modified brilliant ordered for me and today I went to see it. The diamond seemed fine, but now that I'm at home I went to check the specs with Diamond Database and it says it doesn't look its weight. I'm a bit concerned if its an actual problem and I should reconsider or if it's just something to do with the fact that it's a cushion cut and therefore harder to determine any clear ideals for it to fulfill.
Also if there are any other points to notice about the stone's characteristics? Is the girdle ok?
I am going to have it bezel set (to protect the diamond) in a platinum ring with 10 x 0.02ct side stones.
Some info if my situation with it being a w-ring puzzles you:
I'm from Northern Europe and we have a really different way of dealing with e- and w-rings. The engagement rings are usually picked together and it is always the more plain one, traditionally with no stones - though today many women get diamond bands with some small sparkle. Before (not the only option nowadays) both had exactly the same kind of ring as their engagement rings and only the woman then had a wedding ring with diamonds when it came the time. The wedding ring is therefore the more sparklier and expensive one, but the size of the rocks is still waaaay smaller than what you are used to. The normal size for an adequate solitaire is somewhere around 0.2ct. Main stone around 0.5ct is - believe it or not- considered to be quite a honker.
Also, I'm doing my undergraduate studies at uni and hubby to be has only been working for a year or so - which means we are working with a humongous budget compared to local standards - and our income..
But here are the stats, please comment on anything you find or if (and especially then) you think it's a good buy:
