A previous post made me wonder...how many people find Pscope for engagement reasons vs upgrade or anniversary or special project reasons?

I first found Pscope in October of 2002 while researching diamonds for an engagement ring. Stuck around for my wedding ring, Greg's wedding ring, my Regent pendant, my H&A earrings, my right hand 10 stone ring....and of course my upcoming upgrade.

Note: I always seem to forget a very obvious 'answer' so if I do, please answer 'other' with an explanation.

I joined because it was the first diamond related forum that had a fairly active posting community. Half the ones I started with had about a post a month, how can someone gather information and opinions and advice and experiences from something with very little post turnover and no senior members to point newbies in the right direction?

I learned SO much on this forum and was able to pass the info on to my fiance to help us choose the perfect stone. Sure I have gotten some positive and negative comments on my choice, but without you guys, Id never have even known what I was doing.

Maybe someday in the not so distant future Ill be able to either upsize or add to my current ring.

My current "project" is trying to decide how to go about my eternity wedding band...I wanted some heavily faceted stones but maybe some H&As?

While my intent was to learn about diamonds for an engagement ring, I am fascinated by all the other advice as it relates to jewelery and other things.

The forum seems to focus on finding a very good cut using non standard techiques (light analysis) from the 4 C's. It is almost impossible to find information on those important technologies in determining which diamonds will have "life" in them anywhere else. In my case, finding a diamond that stands up and is noticed is important (I have been looking at rings that gals wear - and it is amazing how many "dead" stones are out there).

Concerning diamond knowledge, this forum seems to focus on the two most important - but not advertised - C's. Cost and Compromise. Buying a good diamond, unless you are wealthy, is an exercise in compromise based on cost. Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat are the variables. It seems to me that most people have to chose 1 or 2 of those 4 and compromise on the others. It appears that following the advise on this forum, you will be able to get a great "alive" stone for much better than most jewelry stores.

Thanks to everyone who participates.

I needed advice about appraising and insuring an heirloom diamond ring.

Mara,
I seem to be on the same track as you. I used PS for my e-ring, my w-band, and now my SO's ring. Next on my list is a beautiful tennis bracelet (I already have a few pairs of earrings and 3 necklaces).

I was looking for information on the Rapaport Diamond Report when I stumbled onto Pricescope. Sure glad I found it though. Tons of fascinating info and pictures of beautiful jewelry.

He he he... Well, I found PS while researching diamonds for a dear and close friend of mine who was thinking of proposing to his girlfriend, and knew nothing about diamonds, settings, anything. He asked my help, so I hit the usual vendors like BN, then got interested in fluorescence, and found some of the best info here on the tutorial. That became my obsession, and by that time, even though my friend's girlfriend had left him for another guy, I continued the quest. I became so hooked, I decided I just had to buy myself a diamond or two (or three or four!).

I was also interested to learn more about why my e-ring diamond that DH picked out over ten years ago just wasn't all that sparkly. It made me crazy that I was constantly cleaning it just to make it sparkle a little. DH did his research at the time, but knew nothing of cut, and while it's not the worst I've seen, I decided I wanted to own a diamond that just screamed. I'd also fallen in love with tension settings, so that became my project.

In the meantime, DH has come to appreciate the importance of cut, and got me a beautiful EightStar for a pendant. He's also mentioned an e-ring upgrade. I'm torn on that. While the diamond I have isn't the greatest, it just means so much to me. We'll see. Maybe I'll just get an "alternate" e-ring someday. For now, my new obsession is flying, so I suspect that will cut into the diamond budget considerably!

As for my friend, he and his girlfriend are now back together. Unfortunately, all the great stones I'd found for him last year have of course found homes in the meantime, so I guess I'll have to start searching all over again. If the relationship lasts, that is

Oh, and a funny side note... my friend comes from a line of diamond traders! We found some relatives that he'd never met when I took him to the diamond district in NYC...

I was already in the process of shopping for a diamond and setting. I came cross this Forum many times, but I was very iffy about signing on as a member. I was being careful not to sign myself up for something that is going to come back and haunt me later. After reading so many fun and interesting threads, one night I just did it and I've been checking in daily to read up on all the questions/concerns that people have. and I must say... I've gotten great help from here. While I wait patiently for my e-ring to complete, you are my support group. I need a dose of PS everyday.

THANK YOU PRICESCOPE!!!

I was looking for clues to price a larger table cut diamond. Pricescope did not help allot with that one, but hey - how many posts ago was it !?

The HCA did the trick for me - it looks like things I do. And then, I can always use new case study material. At least reading about diamonds is fun aside 'interesting' and there enough numbers to play with too.

Okay, I found PS via the other not be be mentioned board
2.gif

Reason for finding that board was I had made an ebay purchase and suddenly became paranoid of enhanced diamonds (lol) so I did a search and ran across these forums.

Diamonds have always been a passion of mine, so I've stuck around and have learned an unbelievable amount of info.

I was just searching for more info on the "4C's" and stumbled upon PS. At first I was just a lurker, but then saw how knowledgeable some of the poster were. I never thought we would have purchased a diamond from an online vendor, but we did. After a lot of reading, we finally decided to go with one of those vendors and the experience was great (BTW, it was Whiteflash

) The ering turned out beautifully. I hope to purchase a shared prong eternity band from them (love their melees

)

I've learned a lot and have been having a blast looking at gorgeous jewelry and learning still more. Even "talking" to people I would have otherwise never had the pleasure of speaking to if it weren't for PS.

We got married this past July and I still logon daily just to see what beautiful sparklies are out there...and to dream

- Entertaining (VERY)
- Friendly
- and above all...Honest

Well, though I lurked on PS off and on over the years I registered finally after needing an, uh, alternative diamond board to visit.

I started at the other board unfortunately after we'd bought my rings, but I was looking to get more info on my new babies.

HI:

Principally luck I would say--as I googling "diamonds" one night and saw a "comment" made by one PS member providing accolades to a vendor, I followed the trail here. So Garry H. was absolutely correct (comment made in the thread RE: Independant study) in suggeting that what you write here is evident/available/indellible for all the computer using world to see.

cheers

Sharon
