I have an old passed down diamond that has a LARGE culet-so large it looks like a black round inclusion and also an abraided girdle-its not very sparkly-almost cloudy around the edges-maybe from the abraiding -its a little over a carat and i was wondering if anyone out there has ever re-cut one of their diamonds-is it expensive to do so and how much of the carat weight was cut off-also any ideas of who does this type of stuff. I would rather have a smaller sparkler than a bigger lump of blah.

You might want to contact the 8-star company...

I recently had a stone recut & it lost about 16% of it's original weight. Each stone varies but talking to different cutters, it is less likely to suffer more weight loss when the tables are larger.

Hope this helps...

The re-cut was expensive but well worth the money to me...
