Hi all,

I just went to Michael C Fina in New York with a friend who wants to purchase a RB solitaire pendant for his wife.

He saw a pendant there that he really liked--it had a fine white gold chain with a basket set .60 RB solitaire, "G SI". (I assume this means it isn''t a certified stone.) It was $1500.

This seemed pretty reasonable to me compared to similar-rated stones that I have seen on bluenile and other vendors--but I''m wondering if that''s because the MCF stone is uncertified, or because I''m missing something. (I just can''t imagine that a pre-set pendant from MCF could really be a better deal than a pendant from an online vendor.) Also, I don''t know a lot about RBs, so I suppose that MCF stone could just not be well cut. It''s only for a pendant, though, not an e-ring, so I don''t think he''s hyper-concerned with that.

Thoughts?

Well- G SI doesn't really give an indication on whether it is certed or not....Although if they had a GIA or EGL or other cert you would htink they would have said so. But all of those rate stones with color clarity indicators like G SI. And the price does seem to be 'around' what is listed here, although I see some at around that size in teh 1200 range, so depending on pendant cost?

oh, i only meant that the fact that they told us it was an "SI" without specifying exactly whether it was SI1, 2, or 3 made me think it wasn't certified. plus i have noticed that a lot of the preset pendants ive seen have uncertified stones.
