I thought I kmew what I was going to buy until I found this darn website this morning. Now I''m so confused. I realize how easy it is to get taken by a B&M or online store if you don''t know what you are doing.
My girlfriend likes square shaped stones so I figured, no problem, princess cut all the way. But than I come on here and see that princess stones can chip, are difficult to cut, blah, blah, blah. I like the look of the assher and radiant stones, i.e. still squarish but no sharp corners....
Questions...
Do assher and radiant stones with the same cut as a princess show more fire?
Can I get a bigger looking stone for the money, what I mean is an assher or radiant wider from a "top down look" so that even if the carat weight is the same the assher or radiant look bigger?
Do color changes affect these stones more than princess cut? What about clarity?
Bottom line is I have about 15 days to pick out a stone and buy it. I bought some earrings from blue nile and love the service and web site and this is who I''m probably going to buy from. Maybe an signature ideal assher cut? With the setting I can afford to spend about $10,000.
Maybe an assher like this?
Carat weight: 1.25
Cut: Signature Asscher
Color: I
Clarity: VS1
Depth %: 62.4%
Table %: 61%
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Very good
Girdle: Slightly thick
Culet: Medium
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.25x6.19x3.86 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.01
Or better yet talk me back into getting a princess cut.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also almost ready to buy something and this site came along. Its good and bad at the same time. Sometimes ignorance is bliss!
