i got engaged on the 30th of december. i Dont know anythig about rings.

my finger is 6.5 and i got a 1.53 carat radiant solitairre ring, with great clearity.
its is VVS1 AND THE SETTING IS GREAT. the color is a D.

I''LL UPLOAD PICS WITH FULL DETAILS LATER TODAY OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE,
TO YOU THINK A1.53 WITH EXCELLENT CLEARITY IS BETTER THAN A 2.0 WITH OK CLEARITY. IM LOST. UR OPINIONS PLEASE............

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to Pricescope.

I'm sorry but I don't know anything about Radiants but I know that there is more to a diamond than the colour and clarity. There are other important things which will determine how well a diamond will perform.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in soon

Hi leni,

Maise is correct. The "other thing" that is really most important as far as how a diamond looks and performs is how well it's cut. The better a diamond is cut, the better it will hide some color/inclusions, and make it sparkle.

So, most of us here would go all the way down to an SI1 or SI2 even, IF they are eyeclean, which they can be (but not always). On a Radiant, going down to an H, if well cut, would probably be fine. Some would even possibly go lower in color, as it's a personal thing to a certain extent. Some are not color sensitive at all, and will sacrifice color to get a bigger size.

Again though, this is all contingent on the stone being very well cut.

Here is a chart that may help you with numbers if you decide to keep looking. However, with fancy cuts, numbers are not the deciding factor. How they look and appeal to you are very important too. Sometimes a fancy will defy the odds on numbers, and look stunning.

Welcome Leni

Ditto Maisie and Ellen, it is a matter of preference what the individual values most; high colour and clarity plus lighter carat weight, or vice versa, but your ring sounds gorgeous and we look forward to the pics when you can! My preference would be to go as low on colour and clarity to get the max carat weight, as long as the cut was good, but others may prefer the D VVS, whatever works for the wearer!

Hi leni, congratulations on your engagement!!

.....And that DVVS1 Diamond that is so close to "perfection" in terms of colour and clarity!

Not sure if your Fiance already bought the Ring for you, but if my DH picked this out on his own, I'd keep it!! The size is beyond presentable, and it reflects how he thought of you - only deserving of the very BEST!
That is sooooo romantic!

And very apt for a Proposal Ring!!

If size is a factor to you, and you'd like to cross the 2Ct mark, or the Centre Stone isn't as blindingly sparkly as you expect it to be, then by all means scale down on both the Colour and Clarity in exchange for a better Cut or more substantial piece.
But I'd personally only do so if the original 1.53Ct Radiant E-ring fell really far from my expectations because you can always buy another (bigger/sparklier/more scintilating) diamond for your "upgrade" down the road, but such a proposal Ring truly assimilates its original intentions (to me)......Pure and without a fault!

I'm probably over-thinking this, call me an old softie......
