Hi All,

I sent an .81 colored diamond to Gia. I have some questions on the report. The stone came back as Natural Fancy Deep, brownish, orangy, yellow. My question centers on the designation of Fancy Deep. I read that :"Deep" is not a good category to have. I don't know if that also refers to the color yellow . I own the stone and like it . but would like any comments. Is deep bad?

OVAL --mODIFIED BRILLIANT
Total Depth is 65.6%
Table size is 65%
POLISH--VERY GOOD
Symmetry: Good
cLARITY i1
Culet none
fLOREseNCE IS :mEDIUM gREEN
cOMMENTS: Crown aNGLES ARE GREATER THAN 40 DEGREES

Thanks,
Annette

It all depends on your personal taste. Fancy Vivid and Fancy Intense will garner higher prices, but as long as the stone isn't so deep in color that one loses brilliance, fire and all things that make a diamond so spectacular, it shouldn't be seen as a bad thing.

Experts please correct me if I'm wrong

Good answer Davi!
Sometimes a Deep colored stone might be known a "poor man's vivid"'because the color is so strong- yet the price is generally a fraction the price of a vivid
Enjoy you stone Smit!!

Hi,

Thank you Davi, and Rockdiamond,

The stone has sparkle aand the color is nice. I'm happy to have it. I consider myself lucky to have it. I could afford it.
Thanks again,

Annette

No problem Annette.

You say it has a medium green fluor, that sounds very interesting in a warmer colored stone. Do you have any pictures?

Hi Davi,

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to take pictures. It sometimes limits my particpation on PS. The vendor had taken a picture and it wasn't that good so he had no takers on the diamond. I swooped in and had it sent to me. It looked very nice and so got it. It does sparkle, but I have no idea what the green flur does. I'm just a beginer. Oh, the stone is yellow, sometimes shows gold.

Thanks for taking an interest
Annette

Hi smitcompton
Green fluoresence is very rare!

To see the effect, look at the diamond in direct sunlight- it should change color from normal rrom lighting.

Maybe subtle, possibly more dramatic.
To see the maximum effect, put the diamond in the dark, and shine an ultra violet light on it - if you have one.
If not, just go to a local disco, or roller skating ring

Hello,

To answer your question(s) precisely, fancy deep is a designation for diamonds that are strong in saturation (usually at least as strong as intense, sometimes as strong as vivid) but darker in tone than both of those grades. The term itself refers to the color as graded, thus the brownish orangy yellow color is fancy deep (strong in saturation, relatively dark in tone).

I hope this helps somewhat, and congrats on the diamond I am a fan of this color.

Hi,

You guys are all great. You have made me feel good about the stone and have surely answered my questions. I think this is what P>S> is about. I am a fan.

Thanks,
Annette
