I am kinda in a bind right now, so Im hoping someone could help. Im overseas on deployment, and looking at diamonds other then via internet is out of the question....impossible really. I want to purpose to my girl when I come home. That will happen before christmas. I have a limited budget, So I was looking for something around 3g...for the diamond. I have a idea what I want for the ring. Ok now my question. Can you tell the diffrence between a D and E color? Or anything colorless. I would like to get her a platnium or a white gold ring. I really want the diamond to sparkle. Her hands are small, 4.5 ring size. So I think a .75 carat would look good. I found this on the website

You'll not be able to tell the dif btwn D & E, no. You'd be plenty safe with an F also & anything VS2 or above you could not go wrong with, since you may not feel cumfy buying an eye-clean SI1 w/out being able to see it? Many of the vendors, tho, would be happy to tell you if an SI1 is eye-clean from all angles & at close distances....

As far as the stones you posted, I'd actually recommend this WF .72 E VS2 that WF has in-house

it scores a fab 1.5 on the HCA & has a pretty idealscope shot. Don't forget to mention PS to get a discount from WF on the $3194 listed price

None of those seem like the best cuts, although the EGL one is more promising - but EGL is considered to be more lenient on grading color (and it seems that having an E or F is important to you).

Check out this one:

haha, Alexah, great minds think alike

on a limited budget, i would say you might want to downgrade the color and clarity a bit and get a bigger stone.... but make sure you stick with a very good cut. I think most average people wouldn't see color in a G. Even an H would be hard for most people to probably see color. If you got an SI1 that was eye clean, you could afford a bigger diamond. so if you went with a G, and eye clean SI1 you could get her a bigger stone. just my two cents!

yeah choochoo! nice pick!
group support for the .72 E WF stone! are you convinced yet ponch?

oh- and since you listed an ERD stone, i'd recommend this one over the other one - Mark would be able to run a sarin on this one if you're interested (I've worked w him twice & think the world of him)

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. I am currently in contact with whiteflash right now. Havent yet decided on the diamond though. There are so many decisions to make. The band will be platinum solitare, so I want the diamond to really sparkle. Ive considered down grading a bit on color and clarity, for a bigger diamond. Her hands are small 4.5 ring size. So I wouldnt want to go over a 1ct. Decisions, decisions...its hard. What does everyone think, downgrade for bigger, or stay around 3/4 ct with a colorless color and good clarity. Again thanks for all the help.

what does the diffrence in girdle mean.

why pay for what you can't see and appreciate? There are some great polls and posts on size. Yes, it does matter.

You will notice an extra 1/4 c but can either of you tell the difference between an E and G color.

God bless you for your service to this country!!

Rest assured that an F/G/H color diamond is still colorless, and well cut I/J stones appear very white as well. I also agree that paying for clarity you can't see with the naked eye is kind of silly. So even though your intended has small fingers, I say go for a lower color/lower clarity/bigger stone (trust me, you gotta go BIIIIIG) for a woman (I am one) to think it's too big. A one carat on a size 4.5 finger will look fantastic. Substantial but not impractical for everyday wear.

Thankyou for your support.
Ill look into a lower color grade and clarity. And go bigger. I really appreciate all the help. Im sure my girl does too. 6 months is a long time to be away.

Ok, its clear that Im not going to get what I want for the price I want. So I think the best idea is...up the price. Im now looking for diamonds in the 4500 range. I think its probably the best investment. So any ideas? Ive found some good diamonds in the .90 - under a carat. This what I found.
