Hi. I''ve read a lot here and posted only very minimally. My dh and I are talking about a 15 year anniversary upgrade ring. I''m wondering what tips you all could give as far as how to narrow down your choices. I know how much money we want to spend and the cut and size of the ring. I know some people use one vendor to do all the work on the ring, and some have one vendor for the diamond and another for the setting. It''s just a lot of information, and I feel overwhelmed about where to even start. Thanks!

Also meant to add that we have a year to work on it, and I''m wondering if any or most of the vendors will buy the ring you already have and subtract the cost from your total price. Thanks so much!

I''m on my third reset now, hopefully the last, I actually bought a diamond from an online vendor set it in a temporary mount by them just 14 k gold and I found a beautiful setting by a high end custom jeweler local a few months later. I didn''t really want to reuse my mount for another gemstone since it wasn''t very comfortable and having them fix the head would have cost another $160 so I just opted them to give me a credit for the gold albeit small it still helped. You can ask if they are willing to buy your ring back as scraps, couldn''t hurt.

Thank you D&T. Maybe if I gave more specifications, you all could have an easier time of pointing me to a starting place. Budget is $15,000. I''d like a platinum setting. Diamond - chunky cushion cut, 2 ct., obviously best stone I can get for the money, especially cut, and my preference for color is icy white. Any recommendations on where to go from there? Thanks!

Try goodoldgold.com I am so tempted by their chunky cushion lately... they are very highly respected on this board.
