I found a diamond I liked, until I saw the certificate (EGL-Isreal) and now I''m nervous. Here are the specs...

1.20 cts.
princess cut
color - F
clar - VS2
5.94-5.57-4.30
depth - 77.2%
table - 77%
crown height - 11%
pavallion depth - 63%
girdle - med-s.thick
polish v. good
symm - v. good
cutlet - none
grain - nil
flour - none

The price is at $6000. I''m worried that I may be paying more then what it''s worth if it were GIA certified. Would this be an ok price if the color and clarity were off a step which is what I''ve heard is often the case with EGL diamonds?

Thanks.

Well consider that it could be off a few steps.

And without pictures, ASET, or Idealscope images I would really worry about the cut on that stone. Princesses can be really tempermental and I don't know if I love the numbers on this one.

kind of rectangular, and the table is large.

I don''t know enough about Princess cuts to advise you, but I would say to get an independant appraisal if you want to pursue this diamond, to make sure the colour and clarity check out.

Why would you pay $6000 for a MAYBE princess cut? I would buy an ACA princess from WhiteFlash that is a 1 carat and it will be beautiful and in time if you wanted get a bigger stone, then I would use the Lifetime Upgrade and get a bigger one.

I like this one:

Good Luck

This one would be nice if it's eye-clean...it has a very nice center pattern, great ASET and IS images, and it's almost a perfect square! Although the length/width difference on the G/VS2 won't be visually significant.

Here are some other ones that look nice to me and are close to $6000 with the discount:
http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-49250.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-178871.htm (nice IS and ASET, but extremely thin girdle may be too fragile)
http://www.whiteflash.com/xfactor/X-Factor-cut-diamond-168647.htm (an X-factor, which will be more durable and face up a tiny bit larger than a princess because of the cut corners)

These came from a search for F-H color. If you drop down to I color, you can find even more for some really nice prices. However, princesses can show color more than rounds, so if you're color-sensitive, you might not want to go that low. I have an I princess (see my avatar) and it faces up very white in most lighting, but it does show a little warmth at times.
