What procedures did you take when buying a GOG stone that's being set in a WF setting? I'm confused as to whether I should send the diamond to WF, or send the setting to GOG. What sort of extra procedures do I need to take when shipping these items back in forth? I'm from Canada if that makes a difference.

Thanks

I think generally you would send the diamond to WF. You would want to make sure an insurance policy is in place before the stone is set as WF will not cover this if it is not one of their diamonds.

Does anyone recommend having GOG ship the diamond directly to WF? It will save me from the extra freight charges.

How can I get insurance on the diamond?

oh I am not sure about having them ship directly to WF, hopefully someone else can advise you about this. I bought my diamond locally and shipped it to have it set by BGD. As far as insurance Jewelers Mutual will do this, you need to give them a copy of the receipt for the stone and an estimate for the setting.

What's the purpose of insurance? Is it for shipping purposes so that I'd be reimbursed with the full amount if it gets lost in transit?
What did you do to ensure your packaging was concealed? Does it not set off any bells when you decide to pack a small package and label it with 1000s of dollars of declared value?

insurance is to cover the diamond during the setting process (and then to cover the ring afterwards...loss/theft/damage/etc). Send it USPS registered mail and pack it in a large-ish box. Make sure to stuff the box so the contents do not rattle around. If anyone asks you what is in the box say "documents" or something non-descript. Alternatively you can ask the vendor for shipping labels (I know BGD does this) and they will give you shipping instructions. I was really nervous about mailing my diamond but it was fine :)

I bought a stone at GOG and had them send it to WF to be set and it was simple. They contacted each other to arrange the shipment and just let me know when it shipped/arrived. Unfortunately the stone turned out to be unsuitable for the project and had to be returned, they took care of that for me too. The whole transaction with both companies was done entirely via email and was completely painless.
