Hi PS fam,

It's been awhile since I have posted although I still lurk almost daily :)
Anywho...... I would like to get a diamond by the yard necklace and was thinking if using melee from a piece of jewelry I already own .

Does anyone know if there is a big price difference in providing the stones as opposed to the jeweler?
I understand you still have to take into account labor and materials, but was curious if I would be saving myself any $$$$ by doing it this way.

Thanks
LM

anyone????

Hi there!

I did a DBTY bracelet recycle project last year with my old wedding band. Here is the thread.https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/w-band-turns-into-a-bgd-bracelet.153084/
I went with BGD because I have a DBTY necklace made my them. I just looked at their website and it seems their DBTY necklace and bracelets have gone down in price because my recylce project where I gave them the diamonds was more then the bracelet with the diamonds that they are selling now!! I think at the time they were closer to $600 so giving them my own diamonds only saved me around $150. I would also check with WF, IDJ, and JbEG though. I think BGD has gotten pricey recently.

You're probably best off calling and getting some quotes and compare those to pre-made necklaces on reputable sites.

Thanks Sarahbear621 for the feedback it was very helpful :) I have been looking at some of the preset DBTY's on the vendor sites you mentioned, then it hit me perhaps I could use my own melee from jewelry I no longer wear. Not sure why this thought just occured to me now

Thanks MC!!! I will definately do that, just wanted to check here first as I thought there probably were a few PS members who have done this before.

I just remembered that I was charge a fixed price for the actual bracelet and then XX amount of dollars on top of that for every diamond that was bezeled. So actually depending on how many diamonds you want to have bezeled you may actually spend more, but you will have a highter ctw bracelet etc...does that make sense?

It's always appealing to use diamonds that are otherwise unworn! If the diamonds you'd like to use have sentimental value, then go for it. However, if not, I'm not sure that it would be significantly less costly than having the vendor supply stones.

First of all, they will have to be removed from the settings they are in at present. Depending on the setting, this can be more or less difficult, but either way it will take the time of a skilled bench person. It is not a given that all will survive, depending on the setting they are being removed from.

Secondly, a lot of the value of a dbty piece is in the workmanship and labour. It is fairly time consuming to make all these little bezels. Depends on the number of stones, obviously.

Finally, I suppose you'd want to consider whether you are happy with the stones themselves. If you like them and you are happy with their cut and appearance, then great.

Only you can decide, but whatever you do, I hope you get a dbty necklace you love (and I'll be just a little teeny bit envious, since I have been coveting one for a loooooog time).

Yep, only way to know for sure

I have a cluster pendant with 12 pointers that I plan on resetting into a DBTY. I wore the pendant on my wedding day so they are sentimental to me. I also think that 7 12 pointers would be fairly costly so I would be saving money to use them. If they were 2 pointers, I don't know if I would bother.

Great idea- of the stones are sentimental I would use them, if not then I would just purchase new
