Hi all, I"m currently in the process of working with a vendor (in another city) to design an E-ring and matching wedding bands (his and hers). Regarding the diamond, we recently purchased it and took it this weekend for an appraisal. We haven''t received the appraisal back and hence, not yet insured the diamond. Question: Should we wait and send the diamond for a custom fitting after its insured or can we send it now realizing that we can insure the diamond while in-transit and that it will be insured while in the hands of the jeweler? I say all of that that because we would much rather wait and insure the diamond once it is set in a mounting. Could you please give me your opinions. By the way, I didn''t buy the diamond from the same vendor who will set it. Thanks in advance!

I've read that most insurance companies won't insure a loose diamond. Check with your insurance company.

Did you decide to get the WF U-prong setting or something else?

Thanks...that's what I thought, so I'll wait and insure it once mounted. Yes, I'm getting the WF U-mount double prongs without the surprise diamond. You know, it's just something about that surprise diamond that "dates" the ring. Anyway, I'm working with Bob right now to get the ring designed as well as matching his/her wedding bands.

The surprise diamonds were the one thing that turned me off on the original design. Your "J" will look great in it.

I'm still waiting to get mine back from Vatche and GOG.

Post a picture when you get it. I looked at the Vatche rings, but they don't have "U" mounts w/double prongs. Also, if I were going to get a surprise diamond, it would be the WF ring because it just has a smooth round look whereas the Vatche ring is too "squared-off"...

It'll be another two or three weeks before I get it. I'll post pics then.

Actually, you'll probably want to contact the Vendor prior to shipping the diamond to get an Authrorization Number of some sort and specific shipping instructions. Many Vendors have diamonds and jewelry pieces shipped via USPS Insured Registered Mail. It's slow. The packages all travel via "armored car" with no rhyme or reason to the route. But it works.

Check with the Vendor and see if that's what they want you to do. In that case, the diamond will be covered by Postal insurance during shipping and you'll have a few extra days to arrange independent insurance coverage.
