Ok so... while I thought my ering was to die for, after wearing it two weeks, my FI (bless his heart) and I decide that the rock is too small. It's a 1.51 Asscher, and is 6.32x6.32. We got it from JA. I've contacted the sales rep, and was hoping to select another stone, but I feel like all the attention that I got in the beginning is sort of waning now that I want to do an exchange. Has anyone ever actually done an exchange? Is it common? I mean, we do plan to 'upgrade' to a larger stone, and do so quickly ( my finger will be lonely!). Just wanting any advice in this area. I am feeling 'guilty' to have to ask JA to take the ering back, but, then again, that is why we bought from them, because of the guarantee! Ugh. Help!
Thanks!

You may not be able to get additional ASETs since it's limited to 3 per purchase per customer, but I wouldn't ask about it unless they bring it up. If I were you, I'd search for stones (or ask PSers for opinions) you like in their inventory and ask for ASETs of those. Then request the exchange once you find a suitable stone.

I don't think an exchange is uncommon. I've switched my settings from JA twice within the purchase period.

If you're looking for a new stone, I wouldn't limit myself to JA either. You should look at stones from all the PS vendors!

I have no experience with JA but don't feel bad - it is your right! Keep pushing ahead.

They should be appeasing to your wishes.. Your spending MORE money!

I made three exchanges back to back with JA a couple of years ago. I found the while the CAD images were a nice feature they didn't accurately portray what I was purchasing and therefore I made a few setting exchanges before I was happy. My first two exchanges were very friendly and the CSR was very helpful, but during my last exchange I found myself having to work with a different CSR and when I mentioned that this would be my third exchange and that I wanted to get it right this time, he said something that made me feel like a problem client. I can't remember what it was specifically and I think it was more the tone he used than his actual words, but none the less it left a sour taste in my mouth and I've chosen to use only one CSR for all my needs now. I think that Bernardo is excellent, he's very patient and goes above and beyond for me, if you are having trouble with your CSR maybe you could ask to speak to him personally, I think that you would really like him. Likewise, Jim always makes himself available to clients, so if you don't think that you are being treated fairly I would give your contact info to your CSR and ask that have him contact you personally. Good Luck, let us know how you make out.

Do I remember correctly that you made this purchase without requesting an ASET? If so you should request them on the potential diamonds you're considering. Post them here for feedback on light performance before you commit to the new diamond.

@ woofmama,
Yes, you are correct it was done without an aset and without a whole lot more than a wing and a prayer. We got lucky and that the stone is nice although, it does show the inclusions (as you would expect from an Si1 and I am sort of OCD so I stare only at them. It is a gorgeous stone, to my eye anyway, although an Asscher so it's serene as opposed to popping. If it were slightly larger on the face I'd stick with it. Part of the issue I think is that FI was in NC, and so all of this process was done over the phone and on the internet. He's currently in TX and set to hit CA in three days and so we will be able to go see stones in person in SF over the weekend. I've never shopped for diamonds before, and stumbled upon PS. Thanks g-d! !!! lol without PS I would have been even more lost !

So let me ask, what is the procedure? I mean, ok, we are now engaged, and that is fantastic. The "pressure" is off to have found the perfect ring; it's not as if we are going to get un-engaged lol. So now that we can take our time finding "the one" what exactly should I be asking from JA? I mean, I think that I've still got 3 ASets since I've never yet had one; when do you ask for the ASET? Or are they supposed to offer it to you? What is the protocol? Sorry for the remedial procedure questions but I think the answer to this will really help us out ! !!!

Thank you!

I would absolutely do a return, not exchange. Then you have the freedom to buy from anywhere, including JA. But in case they do not have an adequate stone, I would want this current diamond returned.

I know exactly how you feel, but it's okay ---try not to feel so bad. JA has a return policy for a reason--- Just make sure you explore ALL of your options before pulling the trigger.
We had such a great experience with JA and really wanted to buy another stone from them, but unfortunately I couldn't get my mind off of a hearts and arrows diamond.
I didn't have a ring for close to three months because after JA, we were going to have a "jeweler friend" design the ring and source the diamond. Long story short, we were being charged an obscene amount of money for a custom-setting and a sub-par diamond, so we bailed immediately and went with BGD since he is one of the best when it comes to hearts and arrows diamonds.

Think about what you want (diamond and setting wise), and what will make you happy.
It's out there! :)
