This morning I have been going through some diamonds on the ERD site. I was running the GIA cert #'s in the GIA site and putting them through the cut adviser. I was searching ERD's site by excellent and ideal symmetry and polish. Than looking at only excellent or better cuts.Than taking the GIA cert number and running it through the GIA site to look at the actual cert and so on.

Anywho...... I ran a crossed a few diamonds that were listed on ERDs site as excellent or premiun cut. However, when I looked up the GIA certs they were listed as good or very good. After running them through the cut adviser they did poorly.

Anyone know.....is it normal for them to be listed that way? I would think if the GIA cert says one thing, that the site would advertise the same? Or am I missing something.......

Hmmm, I don't know but that is very good you are looking up the certs and putting the numbers into the HCA. Maybe if you are considering purchasing from them I would email and ask how they decide which stones are premium or excellent, it might be a glitch in the system or something. Sorry I am not much help, but that would be a valid question to ask for sure.

Thank you Skippy, Maybe a clitch. i think if I keep running acrossed it I will fly off an email asking them about it. thanks for your reply! :)

The categories of ideal, premium, etc. have some fluidity. Whereas some vendors will call a diamond premium another might call it only good. A GIA excellent won''t *always* get called an AGS ideal either because they have slightly different standards for cut. I would look at diamonds on a case by case basis and rule out all of the diamonds that have an HCA of under 2. From there you need to round up all of the diamonds you are interested in and post them to get psers nitpicky opinions.

I agree with what Kcoursolle said above. I think she mistyped and meant to write rule out all diamonds that have HCA''s *over* 2..l..
