Did it make you feel like you had a larger diamond? Did it help with DSS? How do you feel about your choice?

YES, YES, AND YES!!! And if I ever reset again, I''ll probably get another one, lol.

My stone feels HUGE now (1.4 carat). In fact, I sometimes wonder if I should downsize?

It TOTALLY killed DSS for me.

The finger coverage was sublime.

I don''t think it made me feel like I had a larger stone, but it definitely made me feel like I had more bling.

Everyone says it looks a lot bigger. But I think it just looks more sparkly because of the setting.

Beware, though! There are a lot of PSers who went halo and went back to the classic solitaire! I must admit that sometimes I long for the simplicity of a solitaire!

They are so beautiful. But I think I''d miss this setting, too.

YES, YES, and OH YES. I halo''d my 2.02 oval, and not only does it have the bling wow factor, but sometimes when I am meeting with clients, I turn it around as if feels almost a little too big. Love it and would do it again in a hearbeat. do not miss the stone in its "solitairity" at all

I will never regret my re-set, it really made me fall in love with my diamond. It looks bigger, the halo accentuates and exaggerates the shape of my diamond, everything about it is better...

I think it depends on the type of halo. I think a very thin, subtle halo makes my stone look a lot bigger, while a thicker halo competes with my stone and makes it look smaller.

I also prefer prong-set halos - I think they blend in with the stone better than bezel ones.

I will probably be going with a halo, because after having tried on lots of halos in jewelry stores they make the stone look HUGE IMO! Nothing else can compare.

Yes, a thousand times yes!
I have 1.5 carat G VS2 diamond I got as an engagement ring- I wanted something to switch things up every now and then, but was on a budget so I ended up with a .91 carat L I1 diamond.
When I first got it, it was a huge let down because it felt so small compared to the diamond I was used to... I saw a setting on one of the boards with a pretty little halo and a nice price tag, so I picked it up.
OMG- the diamond looked so much bigger after it was set in the halo!
I think it all came down to finger coverage, but yeah, halo made a big difference.

I do agree with Wolftress and think it depends on how the halo is made. Having said that, my halo definitely makes my diamond look larger and has helped reduce my DSS

My halo has very small diamonds and is prong set. The prongs are tiny and can hardly be seen, so the center stone blends right in with the halo. I am so pleased with how this reset turned out!!!

If you worry about having too much bling with a halo setting you may want to consider just a bezel. You get more coverage and a larger looking stone in a more simple look.

dd, I haven''t done my reset yet, but I''m chomping at the bit (so to speak) and dreaming of the day hopefully soon, when I''ll be able to do it. (Damned recession!)

What I really wanted to say was that I agree with the ladies about keeping the halo in nice proportion to the center stone. I think the most perfect halo mountings, proportion wise and workmanship wise, look like they come from Leon''s bench. I''m trying to think of all the ladies that have Leon''s Adrianna, and heb, lesco and Phoenix come to mind. They''re all perfectly done and all have different sized stones, but I think the halos add to the center stones in all cases. They don''t take anything away from the centers at all.

This is a shot of lesco''s....

Ditto - some halos such as risingsun''s look fabulous but there are others that IMO just don''t look good. It all depends on the setting.

risingsun - I think the beaty of your ring is that the centre stone still stands out on it''s own and the halo doesn''t look like it''s trying to make the centre look bigger.

Never owned a solitaire, but tried plenty on before deciding on a DOUBLE halo from Stardust. The pave diamonds are so petite that it doesn't compete at all with the center stone. When your not looking super close up, the setting makes my STONE (not including the halo) appear to be a 2.5(ish) round versus a 1.94. Also my stone is prong set, and I REALLY like how that accents the stone and helps it stand out from the halo! I'll attach some pics that I will help show how it totally gives the ring/stone a bigger look.

One more to show how it''s set... And for your reference, my finger size is a 6.25... I absolutely love the finger coverage that halos provide!!

I chose my halo setting very carefully for the very reasons you stated. I didn''t want the halo to overwhelm the center stone.

bump....anyone else? I actually have this same question and would love to hear more replies!

Definately makes the diamond look bigger, totally helps with DSS, and I would totally do it the same if I had to do it again.

I also agree that the proportions of the ring have to be right for the ring to work, but I feel that those proportions are different for each ring. Sometimes larger melee works, sometimes it doesn''t. Sometimes a double halo works, sometimes it doesn''t. (I love your ring LFVDoll, so glad to see you post new pics). It all depends on the design of the ring.

I also agree that the new setting made me fall in LOVE, LOVE, LOVE with my stone. I was really considering starting over with a whole new ring and diamond because I could not see dumping a whole lotta money into a new setting for a mediocre stone. DH is more sentimental than I am and wanted me to reset my original stone. I think he also did not want for me to get started on the never ending upgrading merry-go-round that so many of us fall into. Damn those tempting upgrade policies!

In a nut shell, it made my stone go from blah to fabulous and my stone has a permanent new home. I will probabaly halo some other pieces in the future.

I haloed my 2.07 RB with pink diamonds (see avatar) and LOOOVE the look. It enhanced the center stone and from a distance the whole ring looks HUGE. In fact, I don''t think I can go back to non-halo settings now! My next project is a yellow diamond halo. I agree with the other posters about being careful that the halo does not distract from the center stone.... otherwise you might up with a ring that looks like one of those cluster diamond rings. If I have the $$$, I will definitely go to Leon for another halo setting. He did a fabulous job with my ring.

Probably everyone else is in the know, but are you considering haloing your solitaire? I take it that''s the impetus for your question, no?

Not to go off topic but LFVDoll- your ring is my all time favorite on PS.

I have a solitare now - it is a .76 that we are in the process of upgrading to 1.7- 2.0cts. After the upgrade I plan on resetting the new larger stone is a halo setting as well. When my husband -then boyfriend- and I were orginally looking at ring settings a good friend of mine talked me out of buying a halo and I have regretted that decision every day since. I imagine that with such a big difference in my stone size and with the halo setting that my finger coverage is going to be amazing! I can''t wait to see it and all I can say is that I wish we had done it sooner!

Thank you, Sarahbear!!! That''s a huge compliment considering the large number of gorgeous, knockout rings here on PS! So excited to see your upgrade/reset!!! Lots of pics when you get it please!!

LVFDoll, this is the most fabulous halo I''ve seen

who makes this setting?

Hey DD - are you still contemplating Haloing your solitaire? I bet it would look stunning on your finger and give that awesome finger coverage. Have you had a chance to try on many halos?

Sorry missed this when I was moving, and motown''s question too...

I vaccilate. I have tried on halos and love them, but I also tried on a 2ct solitaire the other day and BAM that was it! I loved it so much. But it will cost me another $6k to get to that size and it will probably be 5+ years plus before it happens. So in the meantime, halo perhaps? Or bezel
31.gif
which is just so much more practical for my lifestyle.

No money now anyways, new house takes up all the spare change!

Congratulations on your new home!

and that would be fun to halo

even for just a few years ehh?

I did the opposite- went from a halo to a bezel setting. The halo I had competed with my center stone a lot, and it looks bigger in the bezel setting than the halo oddly enough. My halo setting was perhaps with slightly larger melee than some of the ones I *do* like (risingsun''s, the Leon Adriana ones etc.) Also I tend to think halos look nicest on (round) stones up through about 2 or mayyyybe 2.5 carats. With a bigger stone I don''t like the look as much usually- it starts competing more IMO.

If you are considering a bezel as a possible setting too, they''re pretty cool; seeing the whole pattern of the stone is really neat, and the bezel does add some size even if it''s delicate- and in a more subtle way than a halo. (I''m definitely enamored of bezels right now!)

If I hadn''t gotten a bezeled halo, I definitely would have gone for a plain bezel. Not only do I love the way bezels look but I''m too clumsy for prongs.

I don''t have any new pics of it but my halo has an air line, so I can kind of look at my ring and imagine how it would look as a solitare and I like it, BUT I love the finger coverage my halo gives me! One of my friends got engaged with a great 1.2 ct diamond solitare, and it''s soooo beautiful and I was commenting on it as we were in the limo riding to her wedding. She told me "I love my ring but you got the biggest diamond out of all of us!" She did not and would not believe it was only .8 carats.

Here''s an old pic of the ring (you might recognize the diamond dreamer_dachsie, it used to be yours!):

Oooh ts your ring is so gorgeous! Whe nI had that diamond I was thinking of that setting too! I love it, and it looks perfect on your finger!

I guess something that holds me back is that a halo would cost aroud $2000 and then I think, "Hmmm for only 4k more I could get my upgrade!" LOL! It never ends! Plus I have a half eternity band and I am not sure how that would look with a halo. Anyone wear a diamond eternity with a halo?
