I dug out my GIA report on my diamond and I have to say, my diamond has a lot of personality and I get compliments on it all the time. But I have often wondered if the "numbers" stacked up, b/c I have noticed that sometimes a diamond can have the right "coordinates" so to speak and still lack that special something to make it come alive. And vice versa. Anyway, here are the stats on my stone, and I would be very thankful for any insight the experts have on this one: Thank you!! :-)

6.78 - 6.84 X 4.16 MM
1.15 Carats
Depth: 61.1%
Table: 58%
Girdle: Thin to medium, faceted
Cutlet: Very small
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Clarity Grade: SI1
Color Grade: H
Fluoresence: None

The table and depth look very good! We''d need the crown angle and pavilion angle to really be able to say much about the cut, though.

Thank you Diamond Seeker. Strangely, my GIA report does not state either of these two numbers. Is that unusual for a GIA report?

What is the date on the certificate? Older GIA certs won't have crown/ pavilion/ lgf/ lsl/ and cut grade info.

MissRocks, the date is 05/09/95. So I guess that would be older then? Is there no way to guesstimate based on the info that is provided on the cert?

The updated info came out in 2005. And no way to guesstimate a within reasonable amount with current info provided.

If you really want to know crown and pavilion, a trained appraiser/ GG, should be able to estimate them without removing the stone. If the stone is removed, sarin anaylsis can be run on the stone, and this will provide the angles.

Ok, thanks. Well, I had the appraiser who appraised my Legacy ring look at it just generally. He said he saw lots of arrows, for whatever that''s worth. LOL :-) I doubt I will bother with getting the angles. It wouldn''t matter if it was crap on the numbers b/c I love it, and I truly do get compliments on it. We paid $5850.00 for it which included the 18K gold setting and platinum prongs. I think it appraised for just under $10,000.00. Anyway, thank you so much for the insight. Now I will have to just live with the mystery...

For older GIA certificates, you can go to the GIA website and look for the link that lets you type in your certificate number. A page will come up with all of the extra information for your stone. I hope this helps.

??
Website report check only pulls up info on certs after 2000. http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/
Updated cut grade info is only provided on stones that were certified just right before (maybe six monthes or less) the new cut grade info appeared on certificates.

I think that depends on the services the original customer bought from GIA. I just ran this number from 2004: 13735763 It''s a 0.73 diamond and it doesn''t show any more than the printed certificate shows. No angles. My guess is that the original customer bought a basic analysis and that''s all that was measured and recorded.

Thanks, Misrocks, you are right about the dates. Sorry!

Stones under 1ct. are usually given a GIA Diamond Dossier which do not list all the angles, etc.

From the info given, it looks like a very finely made diamond!!

Thanks Venice. I don''t know what my jeweler paid for in terms of the report. The stone is 1.15 carat weight, but again, the report was dated from 1995. I do have the certificate number: 8599879, but I suspect that as others have said, I won''t find much there.

Well I emailed them to see if there is any way to get additional information on the diamond...Now it''s sort of like a challenge to see what I can find out. Of course, I could just get the appraiser to measure it...LOL

Guess what? I heard back from the GIA this evening via email. I guess they actually were able to pull out the report. Here is what she told me:

Crown angle average 34.5
Crown Height 14.5%
Pavilion Angle Average 41.6
Pavilion Depth 44.0 %

So, how''s it look on paper? I''m interested b/c it is an awfully pretty diamond in my totally objective and unbiased-in-every-way opinion...LOL (Guffaw)
