Question for Canadians - picking up Diamond across the Border?

Hello. I live in Canada about two hours from the border so in order to save on duty I figured I would pick up the ring at Fedex in the US. Just curious if anyone else has done the same?

Technically, you would still have to declare the item, and it is subject to GST and PST only, not duty per se. Hope that helps.

HI:

The excise tax was abolished in 2006, hence when bringing jewellery/diamonds over the border all one is expected to pay is the 6% GST and any additional tax your Province might have. You need (original) receipts.
