i'm a newbie when it comes to diamonds but i am learning fast thanks to ps. i read the term BRANDED and UNBRANDED regarding a rbc hearts & arrow diamond here on ps. what does this term mean? is a branded diamond better than an unbranded? does one cost more than the other?
A branded diamond simply means that a vendor has chosen this particular diamond meets or fits into their guidelines mainly concerning cut parameters. It is up the particular vendor to establish their own parameters for their signature cut or "brand". Usually these are the crown and pavillion angles, floro strength etc. A hearts and arrows diamond would also would be graded on the hearts pattern and the arrows pattern. Some vendors like Tiffany also will not sell diamonds lower tha I color or VS-2 clarity ( I think). Of course a branded diamond will have a higher price tag than a non branded diamond. But you can find unbranded diamonds that fit all those same parameters without the price bump that a branded diamond carry. It is up to each buyer to determine whether the "brand" is worth it to them. It is also depends on which two diamonds you are comparing and how much difference in price. Some brands are much better in value than other brands. Some brands are vastly overpriced like Tiffany, but have huge name recognition factor. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, just your own personal preference as to what you like or don't like and at what price? Hope that this helps
thank you for your speedy reply back. as you described, this is the case with a price bump of $2.5K for the branded diamond. the only real major difference between the 2 diamonds are, the branded diamond is a g color while the unbranded is a h color. i am not sure if i want to pay the premium price for a branded h&a and a color bump from g to h.
