I was wondering if anyone''''s bought like an engagement ring from Zales....Im looking for my first engagement ring, and dont really want something perfect....Im still in college... but my boyfriend is looking to put something on a credit card and make payments on it every month....I was also wondering if there were some other places that did that....anything you guys know would be very helpful! Thanks!!!

lots of jewelry stores offer their wn credit cards. Be careful about interest rates, and terms. Also, why wouldn''t you be looking for "the perfect" ering?

Hey, my name is Sophie too! That funny! (actually it''s Sophia). But I guess if I had the "perfect" ring I would be SO scared of loosing it!!!! Its really what I do best!!! I just think I would be a lot more stressed out about it....but I am just looking for something that will get the point across....I mean I know what size I want....but we''d have to go in person to see what vendors have and stuff....so yeah.

What exactly would you like to know? I used to work for Zales and now work for Littman''s.

Just about every B&M store will have their own type of financing. Zales'' card is through citibank and one of Littman''s (they have two different cards) is also through citi. A current promo for Zales is 12 months no interest as long as you make a minimum payment. Littman''s has an offer right now that is no interest until Jan. 2009 with a purchase over $999, and again you must make minimum payments. With both of these you would have to make MORE than your minimum payment to have it payed off by the end of the "no interest" period otherwise you will incur interest for theentire purchase and not just what is left on the balance. There is also the regular revolving credit (like a regular card), 30 days same as cash, and 90 days same as cash. Eah store may have a slightly different plan, but you would need to check with them. The average rate for this type of store is around 23%. It is a lot, but typical among any B&M store regardless of if it is a jewelry store or department store.

well I was wondering if there were any other stores (other than Zales and Helzberg) that offered that kind of payment option....

For the same $ you would spend at Zales, you could get a better diamond by buying online at one of the fav vendors here. Just because someone doesn''t have a large budget doesn''t mean they have to get a not-so-good diamond. You can get a small, excellent cut (read sparkly and fiery and blingy) diamond from Whiteflash or Good Old Gold, etc.

Have you thought about just getting a promise ring type of thing since your bf can''t afford an engagement ring right now? Personally, I wouldn''t want to go in debt for some metal holding a rock... interest is a killer.

My gut feeling is that no ring is worth putting on credit card! As you are still in college, I suggest saving your money and perhaps get engaged with (1) no ring or (2) a cheaper colored stone or (3) a diamond `holder` in a beautiful real setting.

Time goes fast, and its ok to wait to you can afford something you really want and can afford. I know many people who got engaged with no ring and went on to become extreemly wealthy, and could pick and choose!!!!!

But if you cant resist......I can understand that too!!!!

Good luck!!!!

Well, I just found out that Blue Nile might have something that we could work with and I saw something they have a while ago that I drooled on, so if it works, then we most likely go with that!!!!!!!!

That''s a good thing

because some of Zales'' diamonds look like they''re still in the process of becoming a diamond.

LMAO!!!

Have you considered a nice Anniversary or eternity-type ring? That way you could add a solitare to it later along with your wedding band and everything could "stack" seamlessly. I have friends who prefer annniversary type bands over solitares..........

That''s a great idea. I too would suggest going for a very high quality anniversary-type diamond band, then pairing it with a solitaire later as your budget permits. That way, you are not compromising on quality and still have something very pretty with diamonds. Always go for quality over quantity. You''ll be happier in the long-run.

That is so true!!! I was looking at both Zales and Helzberg and I saw a half carat solitaire, I SI for $4000!!!!!! I found one at bluenile.com for $700!!!!! I couldnt believe it!!!!

As far as the whole anniversary band thing, I actually told my boyfriend about that a while ago and he didnt like the idea...Im pretty sure we''ll go with an actual engagement ring....

I''m not AT ALL encouraging your to put this, or any, piece of jewelry on a credit card, BUT if you''re determined to go that route I believe Pearlman''s offers financing options if you qualify. Here is a link: link

Bwah! Funny...

You know, you could get a very lovely little ring at Tiffany''s if you''re looking for something to tide you over until you''re both more settled in careers, etc. There''s a gorgeous Elsa Peretti platinum band with one small diamond sunk into the center of the band. It''s very wearable, and IIRC, it''s under $1000. or thereabouts. They have a lot of other rings that could stand in for an ering until a later date...Dont charge up some crazy credit card. You dont want that hanging over your college heads!

i wish i knew then what i know now when i purchased my diamond stud earings from zales! i got ripped off!! hehehe watch out for zales!!

I agree with everyone''s comments about Zales!! LMAO, and I worked there!!! If you are lucky you can find a very nice stone there, but you have to loupe everything!

My bf and I have had the "money talk" about rings and because he wants me to have what I like I think we are going to wait to buy a ring. It makes me sad because I was so excited to be looking, but when it comes down to it our money is better spent on other things right now, like holiday gifts for our families and a dental bill that will be coming up that is over $800. So, I told him that he could buy me a little sapphire and diamond band or something of the like if he really wanted me to have something now.

Good luck on whatever you decide. It is most important not to go into debt for a ring. This is the begining of the rest of your life together and you don''t want to start by worring about money!

Actually, I know that BlueNile has a loan program set up with Bank of America because I applied for a line of credit at a rate of 9 or 10% through them. I was accepted for a $5,000 credit line for buying an engagement ring through Blue Nile but that may have been because I have my bank accounts with Bank of America too. Anyway, it''s something to look into because the interest is MUCH lower than that of any credit card or any other financing I''ve seen from a jeweler. But like the others said, it would probably be best not to go into debt right away just to get a ring. Good luck and have fun

I absolutely agree with that statement. I told my fiance that if he couldn''t afford the ring, I didn''t want him to buy it. The interest will add up and the ring will cost way more in the end!
