Everyone did a fantastic job helping with our beautiful diamond and the setting from BGD.

We are in the midst of deciding on a wedding band to go with the e-ring.

Question:
Would I have to be concerned about the wedding band wearing down the prongs/basket of the main stone on the e-ring?

Details w/ images
I worked with Brian and Lesley who helped me design and fabricate something original. It turned out AWESOME!!!
For those who haven't seen it: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5508

While designing that, I didn't put much thought into what would accompany it for a wedding band. (I know, I'm such a guy! :loopy: )

We've gone to some B&M's and tries some stuff on.

The first one we tried on was simple and elegant:

Next post has the second option we are considering....

Looks like the girdle is exposed in Option 1. That will be the cutting edge.

second ring

Sorry for my ugly fingers - hers are much prettier!

As you can see, with the second ring, the curve somewhat goes around the prongs/basket.

Should this even be a concern?
Oh yeah - they would both be platinum.

Thanks!

I love option 2. It's unique, and delicate, and the curve that goes around the head is a good thing. The curve will accentuate your ER and not rub, since the straight part of the 2nd ring looks like it would sit below the head (and maybe flush with the ER shank?).

the curved band is a safer option because it makes it slightly harder for the band and Ering basket to grind against each other, but any time you have diamond girdles meeting metal for a prolonged time they're going to eat away at the metal - can't tell if the girdles are actually exposed in either design

Other concern is what exposed girdles will do to the melee on the shank side

I think I'll ask Brian and Lesley to quote me and CAD option #2.
I'm feeling more comfortable about it and I think it eliminates risk the the prongs and basket.

Thanks folks!

the curved ring will drive you nuts unless you join the 2 rngs together because Mr Murphy will make them never sit right.

Beware of exposed girdles and diamonds rubbing on other rings or worse still - on each other.
And a thin bit of platinum is only enough protection for a few years.

Interesting point about Mr. Murphy and the curve.

I don't wear jewelry so I don't know about these things.

Can any women who have dealt with curved rings comment on the curve and finger placement?

Gary,
In your opinion, would Mr. Murphy be minimized if both rings were Euro Shanked?
The E-ring has a euro shank the wedding ban is planned for one.

Thanks,
IE

Curved bands need to be joined otherwise they'll never sit correctly.

Thanks!

I had a curved band and it never stayed put. I ended up selling it.
