Hi All,

Been lurking here for the last couple of weeks and been learning a bit (information overload) about buying a diamond online. I''m planning to propose in November and have been looking for a diamond at WF. I read some stuff about ASET pictures. I noticed that many of the diamonds at WF has a dark green centers even with their ACA diamonds. From what I''ve learned over at GOG the green areas are dark areas which are acceptable as they allow for contrast. However, I''m concerned that the green centers would mean these diamonds would have a dark center making it look like it had a big inclusion, something like a diamond with large culet. Maybe I''ve been reading too much and getting all my information mixed up. Appreciate if you can set me straight ... Thanks.

Some people are bigger fans of the ASET scope than I am, but there are elements of its use which prove beneficial. One needs to have BOTH light and dark areas in a diamond in order for the eye to be interested in the way it looks. It must return light, but it also must have some dark, contrasting zones. Without darkness somewhere a diamond would be more like a flat mirror. Lots of light return, but not especially pretty to look at as an object.

The ASET indicates at what angle light which returns from a particular region of the diamond has come from. In different lighting conditions, light will return from these regions from diffrerent angles, or at least we hope it will. Without scintillation and contrast, light return alone means little to overall beauty. It is a combination of these three necessary elements which gives us a perception of beauty.

The proper interpretation of an individual ASET image requires quite a bit of special knowledge. You won't find many people capable of fully describing the process. John is one of the most knowledgeable you'll find here. Learning to use the ASET and the I-S as screening tools is probably the best approach. Your mind and eyes are good judges after screening to make a final choice.

Thanks guys. I guess I should add those potential candidates back to my shopping cart and take another look.
