Hello everyone!

Can someone tell me when you reach a J color diamond that is about 1.50 ct., will the yellow be noticable at all? Will it look like a white color stone if set in a white metal?

I believe I read somewhere that the larger the stone, the more noticable the yellow is.

Thank you for your help!

The best way to be sure is to see the diamond in person. If you're considering an online diamond from one of the reputable vendors, they will likely ship it to an appraiser near you BEFORE you lay out any money so that you can see the stone yourself.

There is no pat answer to your question. It really depends on how sensitive *you* are to color. One of the women here has a 1.25 J stone set in platinum, and it's beautiful and faces up without color.......but it's exceedingly well cut. One of the other women here, though, purchased an F stone because she is hyper-sensitive to color.

We can all tell you what *we* like, but that doesn't really help you to know if *you* will be okay with the J stone. Bring it in and see it.

CoAl is right, color perception and sensitivity is a personal and subjective choice. It really is what you see. Cut and shape of a diamond may also influence the color. For instance an ideal cut round diamond will appear whiter and brighter than on that is not cut well even if they are the same color. Radiant cut diamonds also appear more colored than round diamonds. You will have to see the diamonds for yourself to answer your own question.

If you are in a room with white lighting, you might be able to see a tiny amount of tint to a J color diamond. It depends on your eyes, the lighting, what color metal the stone is set into, and your own skin coloration. In South America and the tropics, in general, diamonds with high degrees of yellow tint, much darker than J are very popular. Yellow gold jewelry is more common. Skin tones are darker from both the sun and racial backgrounds. People like the look of diamonds with a little tint. they look quite different than icy white such as we seem to prefer in North America and Europe.

It is taste, preference and what your expectations are more than whether a J color looks a little tiny bit off-white. It may be exactly right for you. J and darker sure work just fine for many people. You need to look and compare.

My daughter has an engagement ring with an L/M color stone in it that she personally finds beautiful. She knows all about the subject and still this is what she most wanted. That says a lot about how different people select different diamonds.

Hi, this is mt ring. It is a K color, set in platinum.

I am in love with it. I will be giving it to my girlfriend soon this summer

Does it look good to you?

Hi! I have a 1.52 ct J color round brilliant set in white gold and it faces up extremely white! It is an excellent ideal cut, however, so that helps a whole lot! I only notice the slight yellow in VERY few lighting conditions, but in most lights it is absolutely white. I think that as long as you get a really great cut, it won't be an issue, and you'll notice that sparkle and all the scintillation before anything else. I love my ring, I think that if you decide to go with a J you will be very pleased! Good luck in whatever you choose!

Here's a link to the thread about my ring. 1.25 ct, J, VS2, set in platinum.

A lot has to do with your personal color sensitivity. A lot has to do with the cut quality. A lot has to do with the rough the diamond was cut from. Diamond rough has different tints to it. Some yellow, some brown, some bluish, etc.

J's can offer great value in maximizing your diamond shopping budget. I got a fabulous diamond that I am very pleased with. I traded a 3/4 carat H for the J. Brian Gavin told me I would definitely notice the size difference, and would see only the slightest color difference, if any. Brian was absolutely right about this diamond.

I have a similar question:

I''m new to this thread and I am amazed at all of the wonderful information I see on here. I have a quick question to ask help on. I recently purchased a 1.51 J VS2 Ideal cut diamond. I was one of the ones that went to the store convinced I would never consider a J color, but after she brought it out next to an H and I I could not see the difference. Especially $1500 worth of difference. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on the diamond I purchased. It is being set in a 6 prong superbcert tiffany engagement setting. Here are the GIA report specs:

Shape and Cutting Style: Round Measurements: 7.35-7.47x4.59 mm Weight: 1.51 carat Proportions: Depth: 61.9 % Table: 57 % Girdle: Medium to Slightly thick Culet: NONE Finish: Polish: EXCELLENT Symmetry: EXCELLENT Clarity Grade: VS2 Color Grade: J Fluorescence: Strong blue

Also, any ideas on pricing of this ring. I paid right at $7,000 for the diamond locally. Do you think I got ripped off? I wasn''t for sure....I kind of made a fast decision since I am planning the engagement for this weekend. Thanks!
