If anyone who knows anything about this topic sees this, could you tell me, if I wanted to have claw prongs (NOT double claw prongs) put on my band (in my avatar), could I do that? or is what they did all they can do..maybe because it''s a square cut instead of rounded?? (I know you have to protect the corners on a square stone) I ask because I may have to have the prongs redone because I''m having issues...I''m not sure. I could start a whole nother thread about it,but it''s making me nauseous (with worry) thinking about it all...so I don''t want to talk about it. LOL!!! Anyway, I think FI and I will be going to the jeweler tomorrow to see what they say. I''m afraid I''m going to cry because I feel like what''s wrong with my prongs, they''re going to say is my fault.

Also, I''m going to include one close-up picture of my prongs for you, just in case you need to see to answer the question.

Thank you!! :)

Rae

PS A funny aside, I am SOOO obsessed with jewelry and diamonds and all things sparkly now!! But you know what?? Before FI and I got engaged, I had seen a simple blue sapphire ring at Kay''s a few years back and got the info on it and said "this''ll be the ring I get engaged with." Well, when FI and I started talking about marriage, I told him about the ring and he said something along the lines of not wanting me to have such a dark stone (or something like that). Sooooo...we started going to B&Ms and looking at settings and sapphires, etc., because I knew I didn''t care for diamonds....and of course when I came across Pricescope I learned a lot, but it wasn''t until he popped the question that suddenly it all "CLICKED" and the obsession began!! LOL. I often say to him "You know, it''s YOUR fault I''m like this. You created a monster!!" and he says "I know." I''m hoping that after we pay for the wedding and finances start getting better and better, I have more sparklies to show you all -- including a possible diamond e-ring upgrade!

LOL!!!

Doh!!! I got so into telling my little story at the end that I forgot to put up a pic!! SILLY ME!

How come whenever I ask a question no one answers it?? Do I ask the questions wrong?? Or are they just stupid questions? *pout*

Yes, I''m just being silly...and just hoping someone can chime in with any ideas?! Thanks!!

PS In all seriousness, are my questions too wordy?

I''ll try to get better about that. I promise!! I''m just a talker!! Er..well, a writer? :)

Hi, I also have a square stone and I think you should look at pictures here of how they are typically set. I personally like the v corners that are as small and thin as possible. I wouldnt have the guts to use claw prongs because of the variation in how they can turn out. I also dont think your ring suits claw prongs, but that is just one opinion!!!!

And fwiw.....how can you ever talk too much when its about diamonds???? The shame in even thinking it possible!!!! LOL

I'm confused - are you having the prongs changed just because you want to, or because there's an issue with the setting?

Honestly, I would Not do claw prongs with a coloured gem, even a sapph. If it were a diamond and a princess cut, I would probably still not recommend it.
Just too dangerous.

may I ask what you don't like about the prongs? I think they look nice. Could potentially be thinned down a bit, but by no means near the worst I've seen or anything..

Totally feasible and (IMHO) TOTALLY beautiful to do this.

For reference, go look up Snooper''s Leon Mege ring. It''s got a princess center, set exactly as you describe, with tapered baguettes on either side.

As a counterpoint, I have a ring similar to Snooper''s, only I have the v-tip prongs.

I often wish I had gone with the claw-prongs, because sometimes I''ll look at it and from my vantage pint, the v-prongs make it look "elongated" or kinda rectangular, even though it''s truly a perfect square. Annoying, because i was really anal about the proportions, and sometimes when I look at my hand, I don''t see the "effect" I so love about the shape (the perfect square-ness).

But, yeah, search the forum for pics of Snooper''s ring, and you''ll see a perfect example of the claw prongs you''re talking about.

Try that thread. It''s got a bunch of different photos and angles of Snooper''s ring. Snooper, I hope it''s OK for me to post your pics....
