Hello everyone, I''m new to these boards, but I like what I''ve read so far. I have a question about the Christopher design halo ring, which I love. My girlfriend is fairly petite with small hands (wears a 4.5). Does anybody have an opinion on whether the halo ring would be too overbearing for her hand? Should I go with something smaller? Thanks!

I was seriously considering this Christopher Designs setting before I settled on my Vatche. I wear a 6, and I thought a 1ct in this setting was pretty substantial for my fingers (but certainly not too big

). IMHO, it all depends on the center stone as to whether it would be overbearing. Do you have a sense of what she feels is overbearing?

I think it really depends on what your girlfriends taste is like as well as what size center stone you''re thinking.

IMO, bigger than a 1/2 carat center with a halo like some of these DOES look overpowering and begins to look like a cocktail ring instead of an ering. BUT that is just my opinion and I know many disagree.

If the center stone is going to be bigger than that, I would stick with something a bit more classic and plain.

Also, did your GF SAY she wants a halo? Some love them and some hate them, so I would only get her one if you know she likes them. If she said she likes them AND expects bigger than a 1/2 ct. stone in the center, I personally would try to get one with the melee on the outside as small as possible so as to make the ring delicate.

Thanks for the replies. Yes my girlfriend also likes the halo design. She wants it to be a surprise, so I can''t take her shopping with me (ladies are always makin it hard on us guys

). In her defense, though, she has dropped some very helpful hints for me. She also loves the vintage/antique look, and I''ve seen many halo rings that look very vintage.

Ok. Great start!!! I personally think the Christopher designs rings are a bit clunky looking compared to some others.

But before we can offer suggestions we need some more info!!

1. Do you have a stone? Need one? What shape? What size?
2. What metal do you want?
3. What is your budget? Total AND setting only?
4. Any other restrictions?

Wow you''re quick to reply! That''s why I love these boards. I''ve just recently started my research, but this website has been the best tool so far.

To answer your questions:

1. Don''t have a stone yet. Want round brilliant. Size really depends on which design I ultimately pick, but I was thinking around 1 carat +/- a bit.
2. Platinum
3. Total budget is $10,000. Setting only would be around $3000 or so.
4. Would like a stone F or G, VS1-VS2

I would like some advice on the cut of the diamond. I''ve done some research and to be honest I''m getting dizzy with the Whiteflash ACA, 8*, HOF, etc. talk. Any suggestions as to what''s a guaranteed excellent cut, but still a good value? Should I buy the stone online?

As I said before, my girlfriend loves vintage/antique styles.

Thanks for the help.

Also, any suggestions for less clunky settings?

Ok, well we''ll start with the stone. Yes you should buy it online, you''ll get the best deal.

Don''t buy a "fancy" branded stone like HOF. Whiteflash carries a GORGEOUS line of diamonds called ACA''s and their second tier line is ES. Almost ANY of those diamonds are great deals, with excellent upgrade policies, and only a teeensy markup.

If you''d rather do the work yourself, you can save a few percent over the WF ACA stones, but really, IMO it''s worth it to just buy an ACA. Soooooo much easier.

As for the halo, my ALL TIME FAVORITE and within your budget is the Ritani Endless Love Halo. It''s delicate and gorgeous, and the pave is very very good quality. Here is a picture (not the best ever but it will do).

Another gorgeous halo design and a bit more antique like. This one is WG but I am sure they could do it in Plat:

or my personal favorite halo. The WF halo prong. I will upload another one that shows it on my 4.5 size finger.

Here it is on my hand. Hope this helps for size ref. It does not overwhelm my hand at all, and I have the same size finger as your girlfriend. The center stone is .76 ct.

very nice. i like all those rings. the halo doesn''t seem to overpower your 4.5 finger either. thanks!

I love the Ritani endless love halo too, and those are designed for wedding bands to sit flush.

I don't know what size it is but you also might take a look at this one:
