been searching for a while for 1.5 to 2ct round diamond to go with the antique style engagment band I found...and I have recently seen a 2ct diamond that I like and it is k color si1 very good cut and no flourescent GIA cert. its for 10,000, is that worth it or is that a rip off?? I wouldn't know. to me it looked like a j an sparkled nicely close and far only had one feather so what do you guys think??

We would need some specs to tell you anything about the stone. Can you get a copy of the cert?

ya GIA and I saw the certificate which specs?

The table size, depth, crown and pavillion angles, their cut grade - all the particulars listed on the cert.

depth 59 table 63 i dont remember the angle though so I dont know that part but according to the "good range" for diamonds the table is not in that range as far as the polish and sym both were very good so i dont know what that means does that info help at all?? would jewelers actually give a copy of the cert without even purchasing the diamond?? i just assumed they only give you that after the purchase :/

It does help. With the table and depth measurements, we know it is not an ideal cut. Not having seen the stone, I would probably shy away from it. It is a K color and if it were an ideal cut stone, the color would not be as much of a concern. Stones that are not ideal cut tend to show color more readily.

Have you been able to compare it to other color and/or ideal cut stones?

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1466933.htm This is an example of an excellent cut stone in the same color and clarity. The price is more but this is a beautifully cut stone. This is WF's top of the line branded cut - it would be a firecracker for sure!

only have compared it to a couple that were 1.8 ct and h in color but im hoping to compare it with others on Saturday I just don't want to spend all this hard earned money on something that is not worth it...actually I didnt even bother to look at ideal cut 2 ct round because that is past my price range <not more than 10,000) I guess I am just trying to get the biggest nicest quality that I can afford :/

Good luck with your comparison shopping. It is fortunate that you will be able to compare it other stones. Only you can decide how much you can or want to spend. Just make the best decision you can for the dollars you are willing to spend. We would be happy to offer an opinon on any other stone you find.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5207/ An example of a very well cut stone that falls in your price range. The size is smaller of course but you won't be sorry for going with an excellent cut. I'd much rather have smaller, well cut stone than a larger mediocre one. I think you would find that to be the prevalent train of thought on PS.

those are not very good #''s. stop thinking about the weight and start looking at better cut stones within your budget.

thank you guys ...........ya..... as much as I wanted the stone bigger I have to let go and just look at smaller but better quality but the heart wants what it wants I better get a upgrade later lol

Something to keep in mind is that an ideal cut stone will face up larger than most poorly cut stones. A lot of stones are cut to keep the maximum amount of weight (carat size), so most of that extra weight is hid in the depth. An ideal cut stone that is a bit smaller than 2 cts might just end up with the same proportions as the 2ct you were looking at!

really????? see now I''m afraid to actually decide because there is so much I dont know about diamonds...if I would have known it would take so long to decide on an engagment ring I would have been looking long time ago! lol I have only been looking for a month ;) I''m still so clueless its so sad lol

Here is a picture to show you why the posters here rate cut quality over other factors!

Which diamond would you choose?

The stone on the left is actually SMALLER carat weight than the one on the right but the one on the left looks larger because it has the topmost cut quality and hence is returning light from edge-to-edge.

CUT quality is KING - it is the KEY to sparkle AND visual apparent size as well as looking whiter when face up!
A well-cut diamond will LOOK bigger and sparkle more than a commercial or average cut larger carat diamond!

Don''t worry, we are very used to guiding those who are new to diamonds through the process!
