Well, I went from a cushette to one of GOG new chunky cushions. I went from .85 I SI1 to I think (dont have the stone or the specs yet) I think its a 1.5 J VS2...I think. I dont know if I''m done upgrading or not yet. From a numbers point...this may be my ideal size, but I need to see it on my finger first to see if I would like to go any larger. If I do get larger, it will be quite a few yours down the road, at least 5, probably 10 to 15 though. I dont know if I will get an upgrade, because I may instead invest in OEC earrings or a vintage watch. This size will make my happy for quite a long while, so that way I can plug away at a few other beauties on my wish list!

Shape: All round brilliant..

Original e-ring (2002): 0.82 ct H VS2
1st upgrade (2006): 1.20 ct H SI2
2nd upgrade (2008): 1.50 ct F-G (cert say G, yet appraisal say F) SI1

Not done upgrade yet....

Original e-ring in 1977 - none, gold wedding band

First anniversary - 1/2 carat solitaire, color and clarity unknown

15th anniversary - same diamond, new setting in a 14kt. yellow gold bypass design with sidestones

19th anniversary - upgraded diamond to one carat, G, SI2, a decently cut Russian stone

28th anniversary (really people I am ancient) - all new three stone ring in 18kt. white gold with 1.24 carat, F, SI1, ideal cut center stone,
sidestones are 1/2 carat each, G, VS2, ideal cut

All of the diamonds have been round.

No plans to upgrade again (I love this ring), but I never say never!!!

I didn't have any "C" for my original e-ring. I wasn't really into diamonds (though I'd been given diamonds by mom before that), really, seriously!!

Hubby (then boyfriend) proposed to me and I was just so over the moon, thought the diamond - a 1ct G VVS - was HUGE and was just so happy we were engaged and that was that.

It wasn't until a few months before our 10th wedding anniversary that I got my upgraded ering, the 3.02ct F VS2 (though the thought of having a larger diamond had already occured to me a few years prior to that, LOL, which wasn't surprising since we were living in Hong Kong, the land of monstrous rocks!). Well, actually, it wasn't an upgrade technically, as I still have my original ering stone - it is now part of a pair of G VVS1 studs.

And hell NO!!

I'm not done upgrading until I get my little paws on a 5 carater (or maybe a 4.5ct) RB. I'd love an E or F, VS1 or VS2 (absolutely eye-clean). I might have to settle for G or even H but don't think I will go lower than a VS2. I recently spoke with my local gemologist and he strongly advised me against buying a stone of SI quality. For most stones, particularly earrings, I wouldn't hesitate to buy an eye-clean Si1 or Si2 stone, but for an e-ring, I think I'd like a higher clarity.

Mind you, we're talking lots of moohlahs here and after my earring upgrade, I'll have to go on a bling diet, for several more years (well, at least that's what *he* says anyway, he he!!

). My 45th birthday is coming up in a couple of years, so maybe then, if not then perhaps when I reach my 50th!!
7.gif
I'd need something like a 5ct diamond to ease the pain of reaching the big FIVE OH!!

No way!! Where do you think I got the bling obsession from?!

Some women in HK wear smaller diamonds but a lot wear HUGE honkers. You only need to walk down the high street in Central and peer into the windows of the jewellery stores. There is one in particular in Queens Road Central, the store opposite Watsons (I forget what's the name), you will see huge stones, 3-5 carats easily, some even larger. HK also holds a quarterly jewellery show and Christies has regular exhibitions there. A lot HUUUGEEE, and I mean HUUUGEE as well as hugely expensive stones are sold there. Apparently also, a lot of expensive stones are sold to mainland Chinese who come to HK to buy. And yes, there's a tendency to go for higher colours/clarities but there are some that buy lower colours and/ or clarities.

HK is also the place where I got my 3.02ct F VS2. I tell you, the dealer whom I bought it from had soooooo many huge and gorgeous diamonds my eyes almost went blind looking at them!
3.gif
The amazing thing was she was incredibly trusting, she left several stones with me to look at whilst she went out to fetch some more. I know there must have been a camera in the room where I was in, but still...I don't think I'd leave a stranger alone with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bling. Lucky I'm honest, he he.

SG is also bad, not as bad as HK but let's just put it this way, I've been in SG for almost ten years now and my diamond obsession has not abated, if anything it's got worse, LOL!

Started out with a diamond chip. No clue as to the 4 Cs but I''m sure it was pretty bad. I then upgraded to a couple RBs along the way but saw my first EC in a high end store around the time of our 5th anniversary. Purchased a 0.72 ct G VS2 stone, then one final upgrade to a 0.76 E VS1 ideal cut. This is when I first found PS and shopped around with a better eye and knowledge. I doubt there will be further upgrades to this e-ring because I love both the stone and setting very much.

This does not preclude me from upgrading my RHR though. That one has no limits.

Started out with .30ish round, so so cut. No stats, no cert. Wore it for 24 years. Upgraded to 1.40 H&A. I'm done. (although I may change the setting)

Not yet. We've had a few tenancy agreements on house falling through, for various reasons. We're finalising one right now which I'm really hoping will be fine and signed. In any case, I'm definitely moving at the end of this month, comes rain or shine. Movers have been confirmed and flight ticket will be booked soon and we've already signed the lease for our aprt in Shanghai, YAY!. We've just about had enough of living apart.

Original ring was a round .30 ct J VS1 that was my hubby''s grandmother''s diamond. I still have it. We upgraded for our 15th anniversary to a princess 1.64 ct J SI1. The next and last upgrade was for our 27th anniversary and it is a radiant 2.52 ct FLY. I traded in my princess for this ring.

org e-ring in 1984 was a tiny band of poorly cut round diamonds and rubies, total weight maybe .10 set in 10k yellow gold (we were really poor)
2nd e-ring given to me in 1985 .18 ct round diamond probably H-I color SI2 maybe, set in 14K
I combined both into 1 ring in 1990 I wore that for years
most recent upgrade was in 2002 1.01 ct princess I color SI2

will i upgrade again? if I stay married I will say yes, I am thinking I would like to have a 1.30 to 1.50 ct round, we shall see

My original was from Blue Nile, princess cut, F, VS2, no cut info given, GIA cert. My current diamond is a 1.33 round brilliant, AGS000 H&A, J, SI2, from Blue Nile.com.

I will not be changing my diamond again!

Original ring: .50ct E IF. Oh yes. I was an idiot, I should have kept it.
Traded it in for: 1.01ct J VS
Now I have a 1ct cz, lucky me!
20.gif
Here''s hoping someday that I have a real diamond again.
