I think I have finally found the diamond I'd like to buy after looking for a few months. I want to get an opinion from people on this board about the stats of the diamond. It looks great, has a lot of fire and sparkle. There is one inclusion but its very difficult to see face up due to being so near the edge and is 100% prong-able. It a 1.01 carat, 6.54-6.59x3.87, H, SI2, GIA cert, Table 59%, Crown Angle 32.5, Cultet None, Pavillion Angle is 40.6, Girdle is 3.0% thin-medium faceted, 58.9% total depth, 60% stars and 80% lower half. It only received a Good cut grade from GIA but is on the border of a very good. Using the GIA facetware system and making very minor (easily rounding differences) changes it becomes a VG cut. Also it receives all excellent and 1 very good on the HCI tool on this site. Is there anything I am missing? Price is $4995 and seems like a good buy. The H is very white looking and looks great next to the diamonds in the ring. Thanks.

stone is cut too shallow did you compare this stone with some GIA EX,EX,EX stones?

I did compare it side by side with an EX, EX, EX and really didn't see a large difference.

How are you planning to set it?

I wouldn't do it based on the numbers alone, but if you're planning on a 4prong setting or something I'd walk away and wouldn't look back - at this size, shallow crown + shallow pav + thin girdle = too much of a chipping risk for me, esp. since we don't know how GIA averaged and rounded to get those numbers.

When you compared, did you walk around the store with both and compare in various types of lights? If not that's something you should take a couple of hours to do - have them both thoroughly cleaned and then compare them in the sunlight by a window, in the back office lights, in spotlights of course, in "mixed" lights in a hallway, see what you think.

I did look at both in multiple lights. The reason I didn't like the other one is due to a more visible inclusion. The setting would be a casted 4 prong setting. Are you saying it may chip during setting or during normal wear? I looked at the AGS 0-10 scale and it falls within the 2-3 range which seems like a pretty good cut and the sparkle was great but I didn't know about chipping. If the jeweler is saying he will replace the diamond if it is damaged during setting am I ok?
