Purchasing Diamond Earrings for 13th Wedding Anniversary

Hello All,

I'm new here so I hope I'm posting this in the right section. Also please forgive give me if I don't use the correct vernacular.

My wedding anniversary is coming up in May and I want to surprise my wife with diamond earrings. I really want to get a colorless stone (D, E, F) with a clarity rating of VVS2 and above. I've been looking on Blue Nile and B2C Jewels and have seen pricing between $4200 and $6000 dollars. Heck, I've even seen an F color stone with IF clarity for $5800 hundred bucks. That pricing seems reasonable, but again I'm new so I want to be sure these are the best prices.

Many of you may ask why do you need a colorless stone with such high clarity? Well it's for my wife and she knows her diamonds. In addition, she's worth every bit the cost and I want to exceed any expectation that she may have as it relates to these earrings.

With that said, what else should I be looking for besides the cut, color and clarity? I know that those attributes are all equally important including the GIA certification. However, I just want to make sure I'm covering all of the bases before deciding on which stones to purchase especially since they will be purchased sight unseen

Any guidance or insight that the members of this forum can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Budget? Size? Cut (princess, round brilliant... What?)? Setting? Do you want hoop style earrings, studs? Does your wife have a preference for platinum, white gold, yellow gold? All this is important information before the diamond experts here can assist you!

You should not waste any money on IF or VVS. Especially for earrings. That's frankly just nutty. And a COMPLETE waste of money.

You should be shooting for eyeclean H VS2/si1 diamonds. You do not need DEF and especially not on the ears! If you want to be REALLY safe (but still sane) then go for G VS2s. But make sure they are well cut. Because Cut is King. And NOTHING affects a diamonds appearance, not color and not clarity or anything else (as long as it is eyeclean) as much as cut.

I'd be going for something like these:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.525-g-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104067973045
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.523-g-vs2-round-diamond-ags-bl-104068959026

TOTALLY CLEAN! And honestly you would not be able to tell them from an F IF because they are AMAZINGLY WHITE (perfectly cut) and totally eyeclean.

In platinum settings like this:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/truth-studs-platinum-5773p (one of my friends has these and they are perfect)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/handmade-milgrain-bezel-studs-platinum-5566p
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/martini-cocktail-earrings-platinum-5430p
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/handmade-bezel-studs-platinum-5409p
For a total of about $4500 (few hundred more for the truth settings).

(Reading about Blue Line stones: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/brian-gavins-blue-diamonds-with-fluorescence/,,,, then read here: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-flourescence )

And then I'd get these jackets for the studs (my friend also has these, they are GORGEOUS!): http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/jackets/hearts-jackets-18k-white-gold-5411w18

And then you get her two pairs of earrings. For $5500. :wavey: The BGD sales staff will be able to tell you what size jackets fit the studs, based on which settings you chose (the bezels would need a size up, for example).

And those diamonds come with amazing upgrade policies. So if she ever wants to go larger, she an totally do that.

Also those are both AGS0 diamonds. Which is actually superior to GIA EX. And trades at a premium (diamonds certified by AGS trade at a higher premium) than even the GIA.

In laymen's terms (about Lab reports):

"IGI and EGL are like large statewide universities.

GIA is Ivy League, and AGS is like the MIT rocket-science program.

A polisher or manufacturer sends each diamond (student) to the place it will get the best grade (earn more $).

The good to average go to the large universities (IGI/EGL).

The better ones are sent to the Ivy League (GIA / HRD) and a few nerds go to MIT (AGS).
Drop outs end up in a ‘program’ at a chain store or Joe's Bar & Grading Lab."

Quoted from:
https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/diamond-grading-report

So these are beyond top quality stones. And will beat ANYTHING blue nile has hands down.

Hello Misskittycat....

My wife prefers Princess Cut diamonds in a stud setting. I'd like the setting to be 18 karat white gold. Total weight would be 2 carats (one carat diamond in each ear). Budget wise, I'm between $7000 and $10,000 dollars.....

Thanks for the response!

Princess cut for everyday hmmmmmmmmmmmm....I do however reconfirm what every one else said about cute color and clarity. Earrings must be perfectly or ideal cut stones. Becauase they are in your ears H color VS2 si eye clean is MORE then great.

Remember we here at PS are all OBSESSED with and know our diamonds.........10,000 will get you a nice pair of princess. However I know you don't care but in MHO RB are timeless princess will look fake to the everyday wardrobe sorry had to state opinion

$10000 won't get you two 1ct colorless princess cut diamonds that are well cut. If you can drop the color down to H/I and the clarity down to VS2/SI1, you can get a nice pair.

OK so princesses.

EASY.
F VS2's at 95 points each. (total carat weight will be 1.91)
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3022035.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2980251.htm

They are ideal cuts. The ASETs confirm the AGS0 light performance. GORGEOUS stones. And very well matched.

And they are just AT budget. Here is the settings, in platinum for only $315 http://www.whiteflash.com/diamond-earrings/4-prong-princess-earrings-1406.htm

These are also nice, but they don't save you any money, so I would go for the F's.

90 point G's (also AGS0).

Hello Gypsy,

Thanks so much for the information. When I opened those links I almost fell out of my chair. Those diamonds are beautiful and I bet the pictures just don't do them any justice.

Does any one have any experience purchasing from whiteflash?

Hello Heididdl,

Thanks for your reply. I understood everything in your response except for the acronym "RB". What exactly does that mean?

Thanks!

Yes. Whiteflash is one of the most recommended and well regarded vendors on here. There have been thousands of people on here that we've recommended and that have been happy. I personally have not bought from them, but many of my personal friends have done so happily.

Here's some of their previous work for pricescopers: https://www.pricescope.com/gallery/white_flash

There is a search powered by Google at the top right hand corner of your screen and you can do a search for "whiteflash review" and read of them them yourself.

We have a testimonials page also, but I can never seem to locate the thing.

I'd put those F's on hold (no cost, no obligation) for now though before you do anything else. :wavey:

EDIT: RB means round brilliant .

I will give Whiteflash tons of kudos. I love that store, I had H si1 1 ctw studs from their A Cut Above collection set in platinum martini made for the fiancé for Christmas.

When I opened the box I was blown away. I can see no color in the stones and they are 100% eye clean. I would without a doubt buy again and their customer service is excellent.

Call and speak to Leslie at BGD, she will find pairs for you and help you with the setting.
I bought diamond studs from her for my daughter. I need sunglasses when I look at those diamonds on her ears!
