I am in the process of buying an oval stone and a halo setting from two separate online vendors. My plan is to have a local jeweler set it - I am in Washington, DC. Has anyone had experience doing this or any tips to share? Will it be difficult to find a jeweler willing to set the diamond when I'm not buying anything from them? Also the setting is palladium - not sure if that presents a problem. I really want palladium as I am allergic to 14k white gold and platinum is more expensive.
The setting comes in 2 different sizes that fall in my range: 7x5 or 8x6. I am looking at a diamond that is 7.4 x 5.36 mm. Which setting size would you recommend I purchase?
