Hello

I recently bought 0.5 carat GIA heart shaped diamond ring from a online retailer, I received the ring a few days ago with a note stating the that GIA certificate was on route?

Is this normal practice? I would have assumed the GIA certificate would have been sent back from GIA Labs with the Diamond so why has it not been sent?

The online retailer i purchased from has thousands of reviews but without naming them I'm pretty sure they are legitimate.

Should I be worried about this?

Also when I do receive the GIA certificate from them is it possible to get the diamond checked to make sure it matches the GIA certificate without taking the stone out of it's settings?

Thank You

it's fine, i would call them if it has not shown up a week after the ring arrived.

yes, the diamond can be verified against the report without taking the diamond out.

thanks for reply, so is it normal practice for the certificate to sent out after you have received the ring?

Three of my purchases came out to be this way. Two from jewelers, and one from a private seller (wasn't a certificate, but it was an appraisal paper). I believe the reasoning is that they still have all the paper work in case the diamond/jewelry gets lost in the mail, so that they can still easily file an insurance claim. A secondary reason could be that, in case you want to return the diamond/jewelry, both parties aren't hassled by a loss or misplacement of the certificate. Think of how many times we rip off tags from things we buy, then later wish to return that said item. Certs cost a whole $$$ and hassle to replace.. and the average person may not recognize the importance of "only a piece of paper".. and may trash it, misplace it, or get it damaged.

Online stores enclose the certificate original along with the diamond, you could check with them as why it did not arrive in the package,
as all online stores are giving return policy I am sure you have enough time to check with local Jeweler if the diamond is the same as
per certificate, I think you can ask for the photocopy of the cert meanwhile
