Do you think certain crowns or prongs give the illusion of a smaller or larger diamond size? It seems like certain styles make the diamond really stand out and look larger. Halos seem to do this and maybe the size or number of prongs has some effect? And I guess also how high the diamond is set as well.

You could also say they ifluence shape... I saw a round in a 6 prong where they were oriented at 1, 3, 5 rather than 12/2/4/6 and I swear it looked like a cushion!!!

IMO *some* halos make the diamond look bigger, but many just make the ring look bigger.

Some people say that 4-prong settings make the diamond look larger because there''s less metal covering the diamond, but others think that 6-prong settings make it look bigger because from afar, the prongs form the outline of a circular shape around the stone. Visually for me, I think the height of the setting makes the most difference in size perception.

would you talk a bit more about this please?

Cehra -- I think that visually, everyone processes things differently. To my eye, whether a ring is 4 prongs or 6 prongs doesn''t make a huge difference to me in terms of diamond size perception. However, when a diamond is set a bit higher, it looks bigger somehow. I can''t explain why, it just does, for me.

Maybe....the lower it''s set, the further away it is from my eyes and therefore the smaller it appears? When it''s set high, the diamond appears to stand out and float up a bit more, which gives off the impression of being larger.

This is just me tho.

It''s good to know though :) I want my stone to look as small as possible and be set as low as possible.... now don''t ge me wrong I''d take a bigger stone but I dn''t want it to look bigger LOL So knowing it looks smaller set low is a good thing!!! yay!! lol
