Okay, 2 questions of completely separately topics:

1. Would you recommend 4-prong or 6-prong if I am looking to get an ideal round cut diamond of ~1.00 ct in a platinum solitaire setting? A jeweler recommended that I get 6-prong because of the security which I agree, but I like the 4-prong because it gives the stone more visibility from the side (even though I know most of the visibility is from the top view). I just like how the 4-prong looks. What do you guys think?

2. If I plan to purchase an e-ring here in the states and plan to propose in a foreign country that isn't in the safest places (Thailand), would insurance from Chubb or Jewelers Mutual cover loss/theft if it occurred in a foreign country? How hard is it to claim something like that? I'd rather propose to her there before she returns to the states.

You would need to clarify with your insurance co whether you are covered in a foreign country, check with them to be safe.

Concerning the prong style you have it covered as to the pros and cons, it is really down to personal preference so go with what you like best and make sure you have insurance as you would in any case.

anyone else like to chime in please?

I can speak only from my experience. I prefer 4 prongs for the reason you mention. I had a 1.07 ct for years in a 4 prong and have a 1.7 ct in a 4 prong - never had a problem. I wear it 24/7 and am not particularly hard on my fingers - but i take no specal measures. So my experience has been okay going with a 4 prong.

1. I think it''s gonna have to come down to your personal preference. Originally my brother (who''s in the process of ordering a 4 prong setting for his RB to be set in) wanted a 6 prong for security purposes. He felt that it made the diamond look more round and he thought that the 4 prong made the round diamond look kinda squarish. He ended up with a 4 prong because after looking at the specific ring he is ordering he noticed that it didn''t matter which prong 4 or 6 since it''d still be roundish instead of squarish. Like you, he liked being able to see more of the diamond too. He also figured that since he''s getting insurance he''s no longer worried about anything happening to the ring.

2. Call the two prospective insurers and see what they say about proposing abroad. That''s the only way to find out. I think you can propose anywhere you like just try not to lose the ring. Good luck on your proposal!

thanks everyone :)
