This is my first time writing to this forum.I've been doing a lot of research before I buy diamond stud earrings. Your site and discussions have helped a great deal. I'm looking for round,.70-.75 cttw, F -H, S1, ideal cut. I'm trying to decide on the number of prongs in the setting. I like the look of the 3 prong, but a couple of jewelers have said if there's ever a problem with one of the prongs, you lose the diamond. While I know the 4 prong would be more secure, to me it makes the round stone look more like a square stone, because of the prong placement.
I want a round stone that still looks round to me (my sister thinks I'm being too picky) in the setting.
Any suggestions or feedback on # of prongs, security, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

If it were a ring, that would be one thing, but as earrings you've got nothing to worry about.

Earrings don't take any abuse. They are protected by the shoulders and upper torso, and lightning quick response of the eyes (instant reflex to outside contact).

Three prongs is fine for earrings, and classy as hell. Just make sure you've got strong earring backs as a protection against loss (la pouissant backs are great), and you're fine.

Hey sdm, don't worry about your sister- that's why you've got Us!!!

I am a big fan of the Martini style earring.

Thanks Wink. That's the bloody shot I tried to post 3 times. I don't know what happened.

I have 3-prong martini set earring with Guardian backs (like the La Pousette). I love them, and don't have any problems with them. I can honestly say I have never banged my earlobe against anything hard enough to cause damage

. I can probably say I've never banged my earlobe against anything hard.... It would actually be pretty tough to do.

Here is a picmartini set earring. You need to scroll part way down.

My advise... go for the 3 prong and love them. Just make sure they are set flush so that they don't droop.
