First post. I'm sure there will be more to follow once I'm ready to make the actual purchase which will be soon.

I am pretty sure that I will be buying the eternal grace from BGD. My conern is the 4 prongs. I've read a few stories on here lately of people having loose stones. It will be a .80-.90ish round stone (which I'm sure I'll be back in here asking for help with soon). Is this really a concern or is it nothing to worry about?

I figured this topic would have been talked to death but didn't really find anything. I may just not be very good with the search tool yet though. I apologize in advance if this is one of those topics that just gets asked everyday.

Both 4 and 6 are fine. Naturally there is a little more security with 6, but have your ring insured and you don't have to worry. I had a 4 prong for 30 years with no problems, but I now have 6 just because I wanted a particular ring. I love the Eternal Grace...beautiful choice!

4 prongs can sort of 'square off' a round stone and 6 tends to keep it still looking rounder.. if that makes sense! Either are safe, just personal preference really (and the design of the setting you've chosen)

Thanks. That gives me some reassurance on the safety of the setting. I also figure that from somewhere like BGD it will be properly set and we'll just have it checked once in a while to make sure there isn't a problem. It will definitely be insured.

I get what you are saying about the number of prongs making the shape seem different. I kind of like the rounder look with 6 prongs but I really like the eternal grace setting.

The squarish aspect is only there if there are bulky prongs. My prongs were small on both my original ring and my Leon setting, and they never remotely seemed squarish to me. I think the Eternal Grace is very elegant and the stone will certainly look round!

Six for me, and it's not just a security issue, it's a protection issue. I knock the north/south edges on stuff as I'm putting my hands into something like a drawer, or pulling them out. The fifth and sixth prongs protect the NS edges and move the other four prongs to the side more for more side protection, as well.

But the Eternal Grace has the basket all the way around which adds extra protection and sturdiness to the prongs. Don't let the 4 prong thing worry you.

I love my four prong!!! I like having more diamond showing and I have it insured and inspected regularly :)

Ditto!

Plus I just think a 6 prong setting looks so classy. My first love is the Tiffany setting. I find with rounds, 4 prong settings make them look a bit square.

Love 6 prongs for the style points, safety is just a bonus to me.

I have only had my ring for just over a month and have already wacked it around despite being uber careful! ;(

I have 4 prongs and while I do like that it shows more of the diamond from the sides, I wish it had 6 prongs. My prongs aren't bulky but I do think they often make my diamond appear squarish. Once I was at JCPenny and a saleswoman told me ring was so pretty and sparkly and she just loves princess cut diamonds
