So my DF picked out a wedding band a couple months ago and I took him to 2 different jewelry stores (very much against his will) to check his size. Both stores said he was an 8.5 even though I thought it seemed snug, but he said he thought it felt ok. So I found the band online (at Topper jewelers in CA) at a much more reasonable price than in the B&M stores in my area (I live in Michigan). Topper also sent sample ring sizers to try before ordering and the 8.5 fit much better in their sample so that's what we ordered. Well we got the ring on Saturday and of course, its too small. He can get it on his finger but its very tight and a bit of a struggle to get off. So now I'm not sure what size to get him. We'll probably go back and talk to my local jeweler but I'm not sure how much help it will be since sizers don't seem to be consistent everywhere.

My question is, if he can get the ring on his finger but its too tight, do you think we should we go up a 1/2 size, 3/4 of a size, or 1 whole size? I know for me, a quarter size can make a difference but I wear a size 4 and I'm not sure how things work with bigger fingers. I'm thinking either a 9 or a 9.25 will work for him but I really have no clue. I understand this will probably just be a matter of trial and error but I just wanted to get some opinions based on your experiences. We're getting married in 6 weeks so we're a little pressed for time (especially because I want to get the band engraved before the wedding as well) so we've really got to try to get it right this time. In addition to that, my fiance is out of town for work for 2 weeks so any visits to the jeweler for more sizing will be on hold :knockout: So that's why I thought I would at least post the question here...

Not sure if it matters, but this is the band (we ordered in Palladium):

Let me know what you guys think! Your help is SO very much appreciated!

A wider band usually fits more snugly than a thin one, so if he was sized with a thin ring sizer, he should have been advised to order a larger size. I'd take him to another jeweler and have him try on a band a half size larger than this one (but the same width) and see if that works. I would think reordering the same ring a half size larger would work, though, since he can get it on as it is.

Thanks diamondseeker! I know we really should go back to the jeweler, I just really don't want to wait until he gets home from his business trip to re-order it. But I guess that's what I'll have to do. I was also thinking that a half size up should work...

Call Topper's and ask if they think a half size up is what you should try. If they don't mind sending you the next half size up to try, I'd go ahead and order it.

Ditto, my instinct was half a size. If you can get it and return the smaller one, or the new one, with no problem, then I would go ahead and order it now too.

Thank you so much diamondseeker and DreamerD! They said I can exchange it until we get the right size so I think I'll send it back now for a size 9. And if its still too small, we'll just have to send it back again (I just hope we'll have enough time before the wedding because this ring took almost a month to come in  but maybe they can do a rush order if necessary)...
