Yall have been extremely helpful and once again, I''d like some input. A friend is searching for a stone and his fiancee to be likes the Princess cut but does not mind the traditional round stone either. He''s asked that I post and get some general opionions. His questions are:

1. Are the princess cuts any more prone to chipping issues since they have squared off edges?
2. Do these cuts have the same color and fire when compared to a RB with the same cut and color?
3. What are the disadvantages if any with a princess cut as compared to a traditional RB ?

they can be. it depends on the girdle, the setting, the size of the stone...etc. getting a princess doesn''t automatically mean you have issues. you just need to take the above factors into consideration.

a well cut princess will be very comparable to a well cut round. the key is in the cut.

well cut princesses are not as easy to find as well cut rb''s. they are smaller dimension-wise than a round of the same carat weight. they are a bit more trendy.. the rb is a true classic.

1. yes
2. no
3. none

1. you can protect the corners with the setting
2. the sparkle looks totally different in a princess and a round....
3. they''re compleetly different shapes and really not easy to compare.

Good input and thanks. Here''s one that he''s considering. Opionions on this stone ?

Certainly more of an issue than by rounds but have it set into a V-Head Square cornered setting and it should be fine.

A Princess cut is a "modified Brilliant". It''s somewhat composed of Brilliance and somewhat a look of "crushed glass" depending on the size and the number of "chevrons" on its bottom.
