I am looking for a rectangular diamond with fire and brilliant and come across princess and radiant? What is the Ideal specs for a princess diamond and a radiant? Does the length to width ratio effects the fire in a princess?

I am thinking along the lines of a G-H color with an VS1-SI2 range roughly 1ct.

Thank you in advance

Hi! First, you need to understand that a princess and radiant *look* very different...the radiant looks like crushed ice...the princess looks like a star...which do you prefer?

There are rectangular and square radiants....there are rectangular and square princess stone!!! If you go to gemappraisers.com and click on "fancy shape selector" you can play with the numbers and see what length to width ratio you like!

It's not the length or width that makes a stone firely and brilliant...it is the quality of the cut....you can go to that site and look at the cut grading chart...it will give you a head start, as it tells you what numbers may give you a great stone...but there is no guarantee...I think we all almost agree that table should be less than (or not much more than) depth...that's not ALWAYS the case but helps you narrow stones off the internet....then, the crown and pavillion angles are critical...it can get confusing...and there is NO guarantee that a stone will really shine even if it's "numbers" are perfect...

Do yourself a favor and pick a GOOD vendor...who carried GOOD stones...that is MORE than half of the battle!

I'm a Radiant lover here! And I also agree with MMM. Traditional Radiant stones are rectangular, however, they do come in square shape as well. Opposite is true of Princess cuts, traditional is square shaped and they also come in rectangular shape as well. You may want to browse the "show me the ring" forum here on PS and search on Princess or Radiant.

Like MMM said the cut is key to a firey Radiant or Princess diamond!
