This is like a total crap shoot for me. I''ve read about depth:table ratios, percentages, etc and found these 3. What are your thoughts? Also, I have seen a lot of good feedback for JamesAllen, what about the other two jewelers below?

Hi toehead

You would need to request an ASET image for the JA diamond and also ask Excel for the images for their Princess. With Abazias I don't think they offer images needed, their diamond is also EGL Israel graded so you might want to stick to GIA or AGS.

Unfortunately the well known and time tested methods for selecting a round brilliant ideal cut diamond "by the numbers" does not work for fancy shape diamonds in my experience. In fact, attempting to purchase a fancy shape diamond by the numbers is an easy way to be misled from both a technical and psychological perspective.

A round brilliant is a symmetrical stone with one main pavilion angle and one main crown angle. As such the total depth measurement of a round brilliant cut diamond is a direct result of the pavilion angle and the crown angle in combination with the table size and the thickness of the girdle edge. Because the design and structure of a round brilliant cut diamond is so straightforward, the rule that depth relates to spread can be applied accurately.

Where a round brilliant cut diamond has one main pavilion angle, a princess cut diamond has two main pavilion angles... And a princess cut diamond has two main crown angles... In addition, the table diameter of a princess cut diamond can vary considerably, e.g. from as little as 55% and in excess of 80% in some cases.

The only way to select a princess cut diamond is by focusing on Cut Precision and Cut Performance, not Proportions! Focus on the ASET, Ideal Scope and H&A scope images and the Light Performance rating provided on AGS Performance Grade lab reports...

Pretty, but a bit leaky. I''d keep looking to find one that''s cut to higher standards.
