Hello all,
Another newbie wishing to solicit advice on a few princess diamonds. After attempting to educate myself through reading many, many posts, (especially MMM, researcher, oldminer, valeria, et al.,) I will now fire off some diamonds I am looking at:
Budget-$5500
Size -Approx 1.00, with quality being most important.

I guess I stuck with Whiteflash to avoid confusion, not to mention the great selection- As she is pretty rough with her hands-a pilot, she wants a setting which will afford some protection, so I'll probably select a simple setting while we look for a cathedral mounting.

Thank you for all your help. This site is a ton of fun-I'll tell her about it as soon as I ask her to Marry me. Well, maybe I'll wait a few minutes to tell her about y'all. Of course, she may never want to leave the board.

!!!!! A pilot!!!! She's cool!!!!!

I like #1 and #3.....
IMO fogetabout #2...an H VVS1? Why pay for clarity when the color is what is visible???

And congrats!!!

You must have REALLY done your research, waldo92! I LOVE all the diamonds you listed! There's not a bad one in the bunch! Can you get Sarin reports on these? I would probably pick your top two favorites and call those babies in!!! They all have serious potential, so you will just need to see the crown and pavilion percents and the ideal scope image to make a final decision. Well done!

The only advice I can give is to avoid a cathedral setting if she's hard on her hands. You might want to consider a setting that is a bit lower so her ring won't get in the way. I decided to go with the w-prong setting as you might have seen, and get compliments on it everywhere I go. Just something to think about!

Congrats on finding three spectacular stones!!!

may I tempt you

..... it's a little more....

Thanks MMM-yep, she's one cool gal. I see-shouldn't necessarily concern myself with clarity as much as color. If that's the case, I really don't mind dropping down to a VS2, as long as all other characteristics are good.

argh..that's the wrong one...hold on....

What about this one.... ?

MMM- That's a pretty stone-any problem with the TN- girdle as far as being too thin? I just might be tempted.

Thanks Researcher-I'll try to find the ideal Scope report as well as the Crown/Pavilion.-Never thought about the W prong- do you have any pics?

On a random note, I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I like to have a table that's a little bigger on a princess. One of the best things about princess stones is the way the pavilion is cut and therefore how it looks through the table. Also, I love the brilliance associated with a slightly bigger table. But, it really depends on the depth of the stone (you want the two to compliment one another). Case in point, the last stone that MMM sent you could be a real winner, as it will face up big and has the potential to be a good balance of table and depth.

BTW, a thin girdle is great--you don't want a very thin or extra thin girdle as those can chip/break. But, with a TN-M girdle, your stone will face up big and not be in much danger of breaking. Hope this helps!

I never knew you liked bigger tables researcher!

But I'm confused b/c the one I posted has a 66 table...

I wouldn't be worried about a thin girdle waldo...X thin or sl thin yes....Maybe you can get some other feedback...

but there is no guarantee about any stone...go with your gutt!

I think the best table is 68-70% (just from the stones I've seen) because princess stones are usually cut so deep. But, with a 70% depth or whatever the stone you posted was, a 66% table is right on target (it's about 5% less than the depth). I would never want a princess stone with a table smaller than 65%, and then only if the depth corresponded nicely. You know me and numbers!

BTW, I only like the big tables IF the crown height is at least 10%!

.... Hey researcher, where is the link to your lightscope?

It should be at the bottom of the thread I posted--not sure. Are you just making fun of me for my other post? RUDE!

LOL...NO, I actually wanted to look at it and couldn't find it!

DUH. I just scrolled down!

LOOKIN GOOD!!!

But maybe there's too much red and not enough light leakage....

So funny!

Researcher-thanks again-
One more try as you prefer big tables. Here's a 70 table and a 72.4 depth. 1.13 weight. I'll get the crown height and pavilion. Any opinions?

Ring 4

Thanks again.

that's a nice stone! I love a sl thick girdle e/t you lose a teeny bit in size...how much dunno...less risk of chipping!

I like those numbers a lot! In fact, that would be one I would DEFINTELY call in! I think it will have a great balance of white light and fire (assuming it has a nice crown height). It does face up a bit small for a princess of its size (should have an average diameter around 5.8mm), but that's fine (mine faces up small too--but more than makes up for it with its beauty!!!).

So which ones are your favorites?

I believe it will be between that one and this:

ring 5

I am not quite sure if the bump in clarity to VVS2 from VS2 means much (color dropped from E to F). As soon as I see the crown and pavilion numbers, I'll send them off for a scope.
Still running-
Ring 4
Ring 3
Ring 2
Ring 1
