The LM setting is sublime - would not change a thing!
Really love the split-shank design of #2 particularly for a solitaire (meaning no halo).
If your center stone is a princess, and your base design is the split-shank LM halo, then for me the kite-set accents would be an interruption to the flow of the design - if your center stone is a different shape, I might decide differently.
#3 I just do not care for personally though am certain I would admire it on another.

I think I should clarify. The first is the "base" if you will. The addition photos are just showing elements I would add. The 3rd photo is only to show the halo. The ring would not LOOK like that.

The princess is a tad under a ct so We will be doing single subtle cut hopefully pointy claws.

Niel, is this for you? Have you tried on a kite-set square-cut ring? Because I always, always have loved the kite-set design for a square stone, but once I put one on my finger I realized my eye did not like it kite-set - it seemed off-kilter to me looking down on my finger. This was for a square stone I think apx 6mm or 6.5mm. I still love the design concept but know it is not for me, though I still would like to try it out with a smaller stone, maybe 5mm or smaller, and see if that does the trick for me.

Great project!!
I love the first setting (love the 'flow' on that one) with the center stone kite set.
My second pick would be one where the split shank comes together and become one single shank. However, I would not do the kite set stones on the shank as it somewhat disturbs the flow.

Here's the situation. One of my friends is proposing YAY.
The GF doesn't want to give him hints. I think she wants a surprise.
He doesn't feel comfortable doing it. I don't think it's his element. He knows I love this so I am helping.
I've been creeping on her Pinterest boards to see what she likes. She told him she likes any shape and was even open to marquise. I found a lot of princess halos in her Pinterest though.
Incidentally i had a friend that was selling her old e ring (a .89 princess) for only 1k and it was a lovely stone so he jumped on that. (His budget is only 4k)
So anyways her Pinterest has halos galore. She likes split and twisted shanks, and a bit wider bands. So I think that might mean the LM Shank is the way to go
She is a bit girly but unique so that plus the fact she also liked marquise has me thinking kite set. Also the bf seems to think its a good idea.

Personally I love unique looks so I would wear a kite set square stone, but as a surprise engagement ring I don't know if that's the best route to go. If she has kite set rings on her pinterest board then I would still consider it. If not then I do something as close to the LM classic setting as possible in budget.

It's just kite set makes it look a bit like a marquise which then is the best of both worlds. And from what I know of her I think she's like that it's unique yet classic engagement.
The other thing is sense watching we Pinterest and saying she wants a surprise it reall makes it look like he's not got too much of an opinion. I mean I was asking her BF so many times and she would never even decide what her favorite shape was. She liked them all. We just knew she wanted a white diamond in a halo.
I just want to make sure he's proud to give it to her and was proud to wear it. Getting the stone cheap will allow for a very nice cad version of that setting in plat for his budget.
I think we are able to get cads of both and decide from there. That's what the BF wants to do
