Hi,

I am looking for a princess cut in Tiffany. I tried a .63 E color in store. It fits me well but the price is a little bit out of my budget. So SA provides me some alternatives based on my range:

.63ct, I color, VS1......$4,800
.61ct, G color, VS2.....$5,600
.69ct, H color, VS2.....$5,750
.72ct, H color, VS2.....$5,900
.76ct, H color, VS2.....$6,250
(all not in store right now...)

Anyone who own Tiffany Princess Cut,
1. Will .7ct up be too big for their setting? the ring is narrow in width and I my ring finger size is around 4 (very tiny).
2. .7ct up in H color will be too yellow to tell from?
3. Which would be a good choice? I heard some people said don't choose a ring like .49/.59/.69 ct

Thanks for the help everyone!

Most of us don't have Tiffany rings because the average PSer prefers a non-brand name or online brand in order to get more bang for your buck. For those prices, you could be getting 1ct and above from an online vendor. So I'm afraid you may not get answers from people with Tiffany princess cuts.

As a princess cut fan in general, I'll try to help you out:
1. Will .7ct up be too big for their setting? the ring is narrow in width and I my ring finger size is around 4 (very tiny).
-Most people wouldn't consider that to be too large. Diamonds tend to shrink in your mind's eye over time, and before long you might be asking yourself the exact opposite question! There are a lot of size 4 and below women here on PS, and to me, 0.7 definitely does not look too large on their fingers.

2. .7ct up in H color will be too yellow to tell from?
-H color is not yellow at all. In fact, many people can't tell an H from an E or F (I can't unless I'm looking from the side view), and they seek out H color because it's a good bargain over paying for higher colors. Very color-sensitive people can see it as a slight creamy tint, but it's not what anyone would describe as yellow. If you're very color-sensitive, you may be safer with F or G, but you should see an H in person so you can understand how subtle the tint really is.

3. Which would be a good choice? I heard some people said don't choose a ring like .49/.59/.69 ct
-Actually, those are fantastic choices for size, because in general there is a price increase once you hit the next carat level. So a 0.49 for example will look like a 1/2 ct stone without having the price increase that comes with being >0.5ct.
-Not knowing anything the cut quality, I would get the largest one you can afford.

Personally I don't think a .7 would look too large a size 4 finger but that's me.

Thank you for your advice. Really really helpful.
Since this is an e-ring and i won't sell it. .59/.69 would be a good choice for me.

I'm not a brand name goth either, just love Tiffany's princess cut setting. I compared it with Cartier's and but T is more elegant. Poorly I don't have chance to see many styles because I'm in Asia. And I also not that comfortable with local jewelry stores. Most shops here are emphasizing 4C not the art-of-setting. I've seen many awful settings with a big stone and the brides never wear it after their wedding. (Brides here only buy E/F, VS1 up with GIA...and don't like to pay for ring setting. Half price compare to US)

To find a suitable loose princess cut maybe easy, I can purchase it from WF,Gog... but hard for me to find a good setter. High quality rings are all set in JP, EU then be imported here and charged the same price as T/C. So that's why i stick on T temporarily.

The choices from SA are all not in store and I'll wait them transfer some to pick.

I've was in Tiffanys a few months back looking at princess cuts, mainly for fun as I love their settings too but prefer to buy my diamonds elsewhere. I was trying on stones around the 0.7/0.9ct mark in the the bezet setting, and they had good finger coverage on my size 6's. all the stones i tried on faced up pretty big but that was a the expense of sparkle as compared to the excellent cut/proportion princess that I was already wearing. this was just one Tiffany's shop tho and might not be representative. With your tiny fingers I think a 0.6ct would look lovely.

Just back from Tiffanys, and have tried .76 (H, VS2) there. Honestly, when SA put together an E with an H, I can't tell from them. They all look pretty white. Only when D with H, I can see the difference. In different comparison between an "E Lucida" with "H Princess", H wins(more sparkling and lighter in the shop.)

The question is .76 still over my budget. So SA suggest me to order .60, I, VS1 instead. But I have to pay full payment in advance if I want to prevent price rising during 4-6 wks international transferring. A little risky, they don't have any I color in store for reference.

Please kindly help me for my humble question: Will "I color" easy to tell? Or only when I compare with D/E color?

Color is how yellow tinted the stone will look. If you are talking how bright and sparkly it will be then you are talking Cut. I would take a well cut I or a D with inferior cut any day.

An I color will not be noticeable to most people unless it is right next to a D/E and you are specifically looking for it. And the difference between a H and I will not be noticeable to anyone but a very well trained professional with a lot of tools.

I wouldn't order a ring up front without seeing it first as you do not know how sparkly it will be. Can you travel to another store where they do have rings with the right specifications?

Also if you want the biggest stone that will look white and be have no visible inclusions within your budget why not ask for a I VS2? From VS1 to VS2 should save you a few bucks.

If you didn't notice the color in an H, you probably won't notice it in an I. My princess is an I and the color is only visible from the side view and in certain lighting conditions. I think it's a good bargain.
